The Ugly Truth About Hard Work, Productivity, And Goal Setting

The Truth About Hard Work, Productivity, And Goal Setting

If you want to be successful, then you can’t be too hard on yourself. You can’t give up before you even make an attempt at what you’re hoping to accomplish. You can’t act like you’re a failure and have a zero percent chance of reaching your goals.

If you want to be successful, then the first step is believing in yourself. If you don’t think there’s a point in trying, then you’re going to get discouraged. You’re not going to have the motivation to put yourself out there. You’re going to start to slack, to get lazy, to stop taking risks because you feel like the end result will be the same no matter what.

If you want to be successful, then you’re going to have to put in a lot of hard work — but that doesn’t mean your days of rest and relaxation are over. That doesn’t mean you need to turn down every invitation your friends give you on weekends.

If you make your work your whole world then you’re going to burn yourself out and you won’t have any energy left to finish your projects. The best thing for you to do is find a way to live in moderation. Work some, play some. Don’t waste your work hours getting drunk and fooling around — but don’t waste your free time working when you could be socializing either. Strike a balance. Make room for it all.

If you want to be successful, then you need to set a schedule for yourself. You need to write down all of the things you’re hoping to get done in a day (without putting too much on your plate and stressing yourself out) and you actually need to stick to that plan.

It’s not enough to think about all of the things you want to accomplish. You have to put those thoughts into action. You have to take tiny steps toward your imagined future every single day.

In order to do that, you need to come up with a game plan. You need to personalize milestones for yourself. You need to figure out what you want and then figure out how to break your main goal into smaller goals you can complete day by day, month by month, year by year.

When it comes to your main goal, you should let yourself dream big. You shouldn’t hold yourself back. Be a dreamer. Be ‘unrealistic.’ But when it comes to your smaller goals, be a little more practical. Think about what you can reasonably accomplish today.

If you keep taking small steps toward your biggest goal every single day, eventually it won’t seem as ‘unrealistic’ anymore.

If you want to be successful, you have to put in the work and you have to put in the hours but that doesn’t mean you have to make work your entire world. You should still give yourself time to see friends, to play video games, to read, to travel. You should be able to say you’re proud of your productivity — but you should also be able to say you have a life outside of work. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
