Stay Single While You're Trying To Get Over Him

Stay Single While You’re Trying To Get Over Him

You might have heard the easiest way to get over someone is to get involved with someone else, but that’s also the easiest way to break a heart. You don’t want to hurt someone by dating them before you’re ready to love again. You should wait for your heart to heal — at least a fraction — before you jump into a new relationship.

You don’t want to fall into the habit of thinking you need a relationship in order to be happy. You shouldn’t be wary about spending some time alone. It will be good for you. You can use the time to learn more about yourself, what you want from a future relationship, and what you refuse to settle for in a partner.

Stay single while you’re trying to get over him because you don’t want to take out your frustration on someone new. You don’t want to accuse them of cheating because your ex cheated. You don’t want to use them as a punching bag because you don’t know what else to do with your pent-up emotions. You don’t want to carry an entire load of baggage into a fresh relationship.

Even though you might miss waking up to good morning messages and cuddling during Netflix sessions, you should give yourself a break from dating for a while. Choose to stay single. Spend time with your friends, spend time with your family, spend time with your empty bedroom. Take a breather.

You don’t have to bounce back right away. You should give yourself enough time to mourn the loss of your last relationship. Let yourself cry. Let yourself vent. Let yourself feel instead of pushing the emotions away and pretending you are perfectly fine.

Breakups are never easy. Even when you know the other person wasn’t right for you, losing them sucks. It can rock you off balance for months, maybe even years. Healing is not always as fast as you’d like it to be.

You shouldn’t feel pressured to dive back into the dating pool right away. You don’t need another boyfriend right this instant. You don’t need to update your relationship status anytime soon.

Stay single while you’re trying to get over him because a new relationship isn’t going to make you happy when you’re missing the old one. A new guy, even a great guy, isn’t going to magically make you forget about the last guy.

Embrace your loneliness until you learn to be comfortable on your own, until you accept single is not a bad word.

There’s nothing wrong with taking some time for yourself after a breakup. You deserve the chance to de-stress. You deserve to be selfish for a change, to spoil yourself, to consider yourself a first priority.

It’s hard to transition from having someone who supposedly loves you unconditionally to feeling like you’re completely on your own, but you should really stay single while you’re trying to get over him. Give yourself some time to heal. Give yourself some time to think. Give yourself some time to grow. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
