An Open Letter To The Love Of My Life

Hey Babe,

It’s me, Francesca. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve visited, but that’s one of the things I love so much about you, you never go anywhere and no matter how much time passes we can always pick up just where we left off. You’re always there in the same spot when I need you. Whether it’s every weekend or once a month when I’ve been too busy to make the trek, your unrelenting consistency is such a comfort.

I know I’ve been going through a lot lately and I so appreciate how flexible and giving you’ve been. Unlike most guys I’ve been with, you have such an impressive ability to adapt to whatever mood I’m in. Whether I need traditional stable Joe, exotic Italian Giotto, or tangy and bold Ming, you seem to be able to seamlessly provide for me.

I don’t know what it is exactly, but it seems like you really really care for me in a way that others just don’t. You seem to really want the best for me, both physically and fiscally. Safeway was kind of abusive, always tempting me with bad things that while amazing in the moment led to blood sugar crashes and weight gain. The highs were so high and the lows so low, and it just wasn’t a sustainable way to go through life. Whole Foods was such a tease, convincing me I needed the best of the best and bleeding me dry financially. WF was my heroin and sometimes the things we want the most are the worst for us. You on the other hand seem to really want me to have the things that are good for me at a good price. I feel like you really care for me as a person.

Most guys I’ve been with have never known how to deal with my cravings and it never ceases to amaze me how willing and able you are to put up with mine. Day or night you never bat an eye when I ask for hummus or wasabi peas or seaweed or sesame cashews or prosciutto pasta, you just give them to me until I’m satisfied. And that’s just it. You always manage to satisfy me, an ability possessed by very few men.

You also never treat me like a freak for wanting and needing to eat healthy. I know more than anyone how annoying having food allergies can be, yet you don’t make it hard for me to find things I can eat and you never embarrass me for having to ask. If only everyone in my life was so accommodating and offered such a wide array of dairy and soy free milks and yogurts.

I think what makes you so special is how diverse you are. You’re like a college admissions officer’s dream. A highly specialized jack-of-all-trades. There is honestly never a dull moment with you. You constantly have something new and interesting to offer me but also are impressively able to remain consistent. Many relationships are characterized by extremes: the person is too boring and steady or too spontaneous and unreliable. You manage to flawlessly mix the two and provide excellent nomz. For that I will be forever grateful.

Until we meet again, much love!
