Aries

(March 21st to April 19th)

Aries aren’t people who are going to sit at home and coddle you. If you want to get to know an Aries you need to get out in the world with them and do something. They don’t have the patience to slow down long enough to consider whether they want to get to know you, they’ll only notice you when you’re doing something as exciting as they are.

Taurus

(April 20th to May 21st)

Taureans are the hardest sign to get to know. While they are loving people on the inside, they have a very thick exterior that someone has to get through in order to see this. They spend a lot of time getting to know someone and evaluating whether they are trustworthy before they decide to even begin to open up.

Gemini

(May 22nd to June 21st)

Geminis are very open to meeting new people, it’s a thrill that makes them happy. However, the challenge will be when the novelty wears off. You’ve got a limited window to make a big enough impression that they’ll want to spend time continuing to get to know you. For Geminis who have calendars full of interests, hobbies, and other friends, this is not an easy task.

Cancer

(June 22nd to July 22nd)

Because Cancers are both open-hearted and really into nurturing and supporting their loved ones, they can easily get burned. Bad. Going forward Cancers are always concerned about if someone is the real deal, or if someone is playing with their emotions again. They’ll appear to be open to you, and even be outwardly very affectionate — but secretly they’re holding themselves back from the relationship until prove you’re really in it.

Leo

(July 23rd to August 22nd)

Leos are masters of putting their best foot forward. They are naturally talented at social media and dazzling people with a great first impression. They are social creatures who will adopt new friends, but they will be slow to let down their impressive exterior. You have to show a Leo that you’re into them and that you’re not going to run away the second they reveal themselves to be less than perfect.

Virgo

(August 23rd to September 22nd)

Virgos aren’t lovey dovey people. The impracticality and ineffability of relationships aren’t their forte — and for people who thrive on being the best, it’s hard to get them to stop and focus on something they aren’t already super adept at. Tell them it’s okay if they aren’t good at it, you love their practical brains the way they are and you’re along for the ride — whatever it’s like.

Libra

(September 23rd to October 22nd)

Libras are gifted with social intelligence. They can be friends with anyone so they’re used to being able to be choosey. It’s also the case that they tend to value their relationships a whole lot more than most people, so there’s more at stake with taking a new person in. Simply put, Libras have a lot of options.

Scorpio

(October 23rd to November 22nd)

Scorpios are not soft people and they do not like to embrace whatever soft side they have. They are tough and they are awesome at standing up for themselves and the people they care about, but this combative nature always puts them at odds with people instead of being able to add more people to their team. You’re going to have to leave your own combative nature at the door, and prove to them that you can be more valuable to them as someone who’s in their corner.

Sagittarius

(November 23rd to December 21st)

Sagittarians are optimistic and light-hearted. They don’t get deep with you because they don’t like spending time in heavy, overly-serious conversation. If you want to engage them at a deeper level and get to know them well, you have to frame your conversations as fun. Try asking them zany questions that will lead to more substantial conversation.

Capricorn

(December 22nd to January 20th)

Capricorns are hard to get to know because they don’t want to open up to people. They are closed off in a conservative fashion — they value their privacy. You need to demonstrate that you are trustworthy person who won’t violate this core value. Show them that you don’t gossip, don’t put people on blast, don’t get into public arguments (especially on Facebook), let them know you’ll take care of the reputation they’ve spent their lives building.

Aquarius

(January 21st to February 18th)

Aquarians aren’t interested in having relationships like everyone else because they aren’t like everyone else. They want to know that you won’t hold them to arbitrary rules everyone in society follows just because of past precedent. If you want to get close to them you have to show them that you’re supremely open-minded and unwilling to judge them for being non-traditional.

Pisces

(February 19th to March 20th)

People born under Pisces are deep, introverted souls who are totally comfortable being alone. The difficulty in getting close to them is that they aren’t interested in getting to know anyone for the sake of having a new friend or boyfriend/girlfriend. They only want people who interest them, and that bar is pretty high.
