Terrible movies that are totally awesome are movies with cheesy-ass special effects, sensational plots and an extreme disregard for reality. Terrible movies are terrible, but they're also awesome.

Most people don’t know that Kiwi director Peter Jackson – director of King Kong and the Lord of the Rings series – directed a lot of extremely campy, gore-comedy movies early in his career. Of those, the one that stands out – and probably has received the most attention, is Dead Alive (another notable gore-comedy of his is Bad Taste). I can’t remember the plot, exactly, but it’s generally just a gore-ridden splatter film which contains the famous scene of the main character chopping to pieces a room packed full of alien zombies with a lawnmower (seen on this page – NSFW). Awesome! And pretty terrible.
