Read This If You’re A Fiercely Independent Woman Who Needs To Remember The Value Of Letting Someone In

Independence is liberating, it really is, but so is having someone there for you. Regardless of who it is, it’s about having someone by your side that you can rely on.

Being fiercely independent is an empowering feeling, especially for women.

The feeling of being able to do everything on your own and knowing you’ve worked your ass off for your life is incredible. The feeling of taking care of yourself and not being afraid to take yourself out to lunch and the movies is satisfying. You tell everyone who asks that you’re doing well on your own and you don’t need anyone by your side because you really don’t. You’ve got everything figured out. You’ve mastered how to carry all your groceries in the house in one trip, you know how to pump air into your own tires and fill your own windshield washer fluid, maybe you know more and the more power to you for that. You can kill your own spiders in your house and make your own breakfast. You are independent and you own it.

Your independence is a trait you pride yourself on, and you should. There are people in the world that enjoy being dependent on others and having them do everything for them. But you are not one of those people. If you want something, you go after it. You don’t need approval from others to enjoy something, you do what makes you happy and that is how it should be. You can take care of your own needs and others needs without a problem because that is the type of person you are.

Always being there for someone else is exhausting and sometimes you need the favor returned. You can’t always be expected to come to someone’s rescue and never have the favor returned. People know they can count on you because you’re independence makes you so reliable.

Independence is liberating, it really is, but so is having someone there for you. I’m not even talking about a significant other, but maybe it’s your best guy friend or maybe it’s your mom.

Those are the people who have helped shape you into the person you are today.

They’ve been there through the highs and the lows. They’ve celebrated your victories with you and they’ve rubbed your back when you’re crying, and there is no infamy in that. They know you are there for them too and not solely taking advantage of them and their offerings.

It’s a long trip alone without someone walking by your side when things get tough, sometimes you need a hand to hold, someone to get you by. There is no shame in asking for help, for letting someone into your tight knit world. As strong as you want to appear on the exterior your independence won’t be shattered by asking for help, it won’t be taken from you when you cry to your best friend about how unfair life can be from time to time.

Everyone wants to be around when you’re successful, but the people who really matter are the ones by your side when things aren’t fun, when things get complicated and when things down right suck. That’s when you need someone who’s hand you can hold, that’s when you have to put your pride on hold for a second and accept the fact you can’t do everything for yourself, no matter how independent you are.

You wouldn’t be who you are today if not for the people who have reached their hand out for yours in times of need. You wouldn’t be who you are today if not for those you love and those who love you back. Seeking help from others does not make you any less independent, because it is a long trip alone and everyone needs a hand to hold from time to time. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
