This month I am turning 25 on the 25th. I hear that when your age matches the date of your birthday it’s good luck. They call it a golden birthday. So I’m going to go with that.

As I approach a quarter of a century, I find myself reflecting on myself and what I have and haven’t accomplished, as well as birthdays in general. I have always taken birthdays pretty seriously. One year in college I’m pretty sure we celebrated mine the whole month of October.

I’m sure some people think it’s pointless to make such a big deal out of one day. As we age, birthdays tend to get a little less exciting and people begin to dread the day that reminds them that they are a whole year older. As times have changed people are in less of a rush of figuring it all out. The whole point is to experience your journey. Don’t lose yourself in the present, preoccupied with what the future may or may not hold. You don’t want to miss out on what is happening right now. You don’t need to have a set schedule of what needs to be obtained by certain ages.

Your path is not going to be the same as someone else. In fact, you shouldn’t want it to be. So with the overkill of what is going on in other people’s lives through social media, stay focused on you. Set goals for yourself but allow yourself to meet them according to you. If you want to make a change, make it happen. Whatever age you are, you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

If you have a birthday, celebrate it. You coming into this world was a beautiful thing. Celebrate the shit out of that.

Although I’m no expert, I have figured some of it out. In honor of my 25th birthday here are 25 pieces of advice I’ve picked up along the way.
