Amanda Knox Wants You To Help Crowdfund Her Space-Themed Wedding (And No, You’re Not Invited)

Patrons can also put money toward specific things, such as the band, the costumes (???), the special effects (seriously, ???), photography, games, and paradox props (?????), most of which mainly just leave me with a lot of questions.

Over a decade after Amanda Knox became an international sensation for being accused of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, she’s returned to the news cycle this year, though for decidedly less morbid reasons. It’s been a few months since Knox made the shocking reveal that she was returning to Italy for the for the first time since she was convicted (and later acquitted) for Kercher’s murder, and today she made headlines for a similarly controversial announcement: She’s getting married, and she needs you to help her pay for the ceremony.

No, seriously, she set up a crowdfunding page “asking for donations towards the cost of the wedding. Whether you’re attending or not[…]”

Let’s be clear: this is not an open invitation to her wedding, but she would definitely like your help funding her out-of-this-world, space-themed wedding. She asks any generous takers to donate anywhere from $25 to $10,000. (“We don’t really expect to have any donors this generous,” Knox and Robinson wrote under the latter option, “but if you’re out there, and you exist, your friendship is truly timeless!”) Patrons can also put money toward specific things, such as the band, the costumes (???), the special effects (seriously, ???), photography, games, and paradox props (?????), most of which mainly just leave me with a lot of questions.

But even if you weren’t invited to this extraterrestrial affair, it’s not like you’re getting nothing out of it—by donating, patrons will receive a signed, limited edition copy of The Cardio Tesseract, a poetry book co-written by Knox and her soon-to-be husband, Christopher Robinson.

They also wrote this very quirky story about their upcoming wedding, which I feel like I’ll never fully grasp, but okay, fine, I’ll go with it.

The need for donations, Knox explains, is due to her most recent trip to Italy. She and Robinson wrote that they spent their wedding funds last-minute to travel to Modena so she could speak at an event for the Italy Innocent Project, an organization that centers its work on wrongful convictions in Italy. They also made a pit stop in France “to clear our heads and shake off the hurt,” according to Knox’s Instagram.

Amanda Knox is no longer the girl we used to know, the one who was once plastered all over the news for being wrongly accused of murder while studying abroad in Italy. She has other newsworthy things going on in her life now. In the wise words of my coworker, “This wedding crowdfunding, however… That is a true crime.” Thought Catalog Logo Mark
