When You Like Someone Who Is Never Going To Feel The Same Way About You

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, you hate yourself for getting your hopes up. For reading too far into the way they looked at you or the words they texted you. For letting yourself believe that maybe you do have a chance, maybe they aren’t as far out of your league as you thought. For hoping that somehow you two will get together, even though you know in reality it is never going to happen.

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, you feel like an idiot whenever you are around them. They always act so calm and you always act so awkward. Nervous. You talk too much or you say too little. You either look like you are overly excited to see them or you overcompensate by looking like you couldn’t care less about them. You never come across the way that you want to.

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, your insecurities bother you more than they ever have before. You are hyperaware of the gap in your teeth and the size of your thighs. You are careful about which pictures you post on Snapchat and Instagram in case the person sees them. You become extra self-conscious because all you want to do is impress them. And when you don’t get the reaction from them that you wanted, you think about all of the potential reasons why they aren’t attracted to you, why they don’t want to date you.

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, you get excited over little things that are no big deal to them, things that they probably never even noticed. The fact that you made extended eye contact. The fact that they liked your latest picture. The fact that your arms accidentally brushed when you walked by.

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, you end up getting your heart broken a little more every damn day. You feel your stomach sink during unexpected moments. When they ignore your texts. When they cancel plans. When they post a picture with someone else. When they flirt with someone else. And finally, when they end up dating someone else.

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, you wonder why you have such bad taste. Why you always fall for unobtainable people. Why you keep doing this to yourself over and over again, even though you know how badly it hurts. Even though you know how it is going to end, because it always ends the same way.

When you like someone who is never going to feel the same way about you, you ignore all of the people who do want to be with you. The people who see your worth. The people who actually deserve your attention. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
