You Can Love Someone And Still Leave If You Are Unhappy

God and Man

Love is not supposed to be so hard. Yes, love requires compromise, and it requires change but it should not feel like it is difficult to change a few things about your life for that person. Because at the end of the day, love makes you want to be a better human being. It makes you want to try harder, do better, be stronger. That’s healthy. So if you find yourself in the kind of relationship where love starts feeling like it’s made of one sided work, then you have a right, no, you have an obligation to leave.

The person you are in love with doesn’t have to be bad. They don’t have to be abusive. In fact, they could be the nicest people in the world, but it you feel like you are the one putting in all the effort, and they are not making any kind of changes to their life for you, then you have a right to leave.

Look, here is the sad thing about people. Sometimes you meet someone and you think they are the one, but their role in your life turns out to be someone who is just there to prepare you for the one. And you can be as kind and love them more than life itself but if they do not change and adapt to you, then they are simply not worth another second of you life.

Life is too short.

It is too short to stay in a love where you keep hoping and praying someone loves you back. It is too short to stay in a love where someone keeps promising you change and refuses to change for you. It is too short to spend even one more day trying to adapt in a love that will not adapt for you.

If you are waiting for a sign to see if you should leave, take this as your sign, take this as your message, take this as your moment.

Pick up what is left of your heart in this foray, pick up your metaphorical bags…and leave. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
