You Are Enough

You are enough.

Read it, and then read it again.

You are enough.

Let it really sink in.

We read these three words, but we often forget the depth of the meaning behind them. We often push the meaning to the side and just continue to live our daily lives, thinking whatever we want about ourselves.

I hear these words and I don’t stop the internal criticisms and negative thoughts that pass through my mind, but I’m working on it.

Comparing yourself to others sucks. It’s mentally draining and it’s frustrating, it puts us at war with ourselves.

It’s time to stop.

It won’t happen over night, it’s taken time, but I’m slowly learning to stop the comparisons because I am enough, and so are you.

There is no need to change yourself to please others because if someone doesn’t like you for you then you shouldn’t want those people in your life. You shouldn’t try to change the way you dress, talk or look in order to gain approval from someone to be their definition of “enough.”

You do not become enough based on something you did or said, but because of who you are.

You are enough because of your thoughts and your passions. You are enough because of your heart and your ability to give to others. You are enough because of how you love and the sense of humor you share with the world. Every part of who you are is what makes you enough.

No two people are the same; no two bodies, minds or emotional responses in any two people are the same. Everyone is different and that is amazing.

It means you can be whoever you want to be and that is an awesome freedom to have. If you don’t like something you can change it, if you want to challenge yourself to grow and become better, you can! If you want to walk away from negativity, you can and I encourage it.

I spent a lot of time comparing myself to others and the only place it left me was feeling empty and sad. It didn’t ever leave me feeling satisfied and whole, it didn’t leave me feeling proud or motivated, and that’s when I knew enough was enough.

I knew if I wanted to find peace with myself I had to stop using the comparisons I’d make in my head in a negative way, and instead use them to fuel me in an uplifting and positive way.

The only time you should compare yourself to others and is if you’re using their success to motivate you to do better. Don’t let jealousy take over, but instead light a fire inside you if you feel you need to improve and use it as fuel to change your path.

You can’t measure self-worth, you can’t set goals and decide once you reach a certain goal you will be enough, that’s not how it works. You don’t have to be skinnier or smarter or prettier or more or less of anything in order to be enough because you are enough right now.

You are enough and you are loved, and that should be enough for you. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
