Thank You For Showing Me What True Love Feels Like

‘I never saw you coming. And I’ll never be the same’ – Taylor Swift

Before you, I didn’t know what love was. Before you, I didn’t have a clue.

But then you walked into my life with confident strides, and that lopsided smile I grew to adore. You walked into my life with your hands outstretched towards mine.

And I grabbed them.

I didn’t know what I was getting into. I didn’t know that this boy I had met at a concert, would drastically change the person that I was. I didn’t know you were going to love me like you did. But, you did. I didn’t know my heart had the ability and strength to love and care so deeply for someone else. But you showed me that it did.

Thank you for showing me what it means to love someone with your whole heart. Thank you for showing me how to love selflessly, without fear, and without doubts.

You showed me what a first kiss was supposed to feel like. Nerve- wracking and feverish, but gentle and hesitant. You showed me what a first love was supposed to feel like. Bright, and vivid and getting drunk on just each other. And then you showed me what a first heartbreak was supposed to feel like. Never ending, all consuming and tsunamis of tears.

We ended. But god damn, was our love bright.

Thank you for giving me three years of beautiful, beautiful love. Thank you for giving me the strength and confidence that I never had until I met you. You changed my world for the better. You changed me.

Our love was one for the books. It was the kind of love that anyone could ever hope for. We had the kind of love that people could only ever dream of. But, we got to have it for a little bit. I got to have you.

Because of you, I know what love feels like.

Because of you, I know what I deserve.

Because of you, I love myself.

And because of you, I won’t settle for anything that is less than what it felt like to be loved by you.
