Some love stories have to end, whether you want it to or not. And most of these love stories, change your whole world.

When you find true love, you can’t imagine it ever going away. You don’t see your future without this person. You can’t even wrap your head around that. When you find true love, you feel it so deeply, that no one can tell you otherwise.

True love can change the person that you are, and it shapes you in ways that you can never see coming.

True love is one of the most remarkable drugs you could ever taste and touch. And just like a drug, you can’t get it out of your head. You can’t see a future without it.

But, sometimes, even the truest of loves can come to an end. And that doesn’t mean that the love wasn’t real, it just means that for whatever reason, you two can’t work it out.

When you have to let go of a true love, it is absolutely heart-wrenching. It isn’t pretty, and no amount of ugly words can describe what it truly feels like.

When you have to let go of true love, you feel like a part of your soul has died.

During that love, you fed off of each other’s hearts, taking and giving and taking and giving some more. So, when it ends, you only have yourself. You feel like you have nothing more to give. You feel like you don’t have anything to take anymore.

To let go of a true love, would mean trying to let go of that part of you. To let go of a true love, would mean destroying that beautiful piece of you.

So, the truth is, you can’t let go of it completely. You can’t drink it away and forget all of it. You just can’t.

You just have to learn to live with it. To live with that tiny ache in your chest every time someone mentions their name. To live with the tiny lump in your throat that is always ready to break. And to live with the wonderful memories that that true love gave you. And to live with his fingerprint forever marked on your heart.

It doesn’t have to be excruciating anymore. It doesn’t even have to be painful. But, it’s always going to be there. As a reminder, that you got to experience the beauty that is true love. And as a reminder that one day, it’s going to happen again.

It won’t be the same as before. He won’t be like your first true love. But maybe this time, it will be even more powerful. And maybe it won’t have to end. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
