Elliot Page Shares What ‘Having A Chris Nolan Experience Again’ Filming ‘The Odyssey’ Post-Transition Means To Him
Canadian actor Elliot Page spoke to his latest project, Christopher Nolan’s incredibly star-studded interpretation of The Odyssey, during an “X-Men: Days of Future Past” at New York Comic-Con, sharing just how special this reunion with the blockbuster director is, marking their first film together in fifteen years since 2010’s Oscar winning Inception, as well as their first film since Page’s gender transition.
Of the casting process itself, Page shared the following:
I was so excited to be thought of for it and to be asked to come back to work with him. I loved working with him on Inception and loved being a part of that movie. So, yeah, I was just completely jazzed and excited and basically went and met with Chris and talked about the part and then sat in the room and read the script and it was, of course, a big yes.
We still don’t know which character from Greek mythology Page will bring to life, and he even stated, “Sadly, I can’t say much”, on the topic during the discussion, but did confirm he “got to go to some pretty awesome places” while shooting on location before adding, “It’s gonna be epic.”
What we do know for sure is that the film is slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2026 (we love a big summer release), and will see Matt Damon in the titular role of Odysseus with Tom Holland playing his son, Telemachus, and Charlize Theron as goddess and witch Circe (not the same one from “Game of Thrones”).
Other massive names who have been confirmed as part of the cast include Anne Hathaway, Zendaya (LOVE to see her and her fiancé in a project together), Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and John Leguizamo, but at this point in time, we don’t know which roles they’ll be playing.
Obviously with an ancient epic like this, we already know who the main characters are, so we can guess one of these mega stars (maybe Hathaway?) will be playing Odysseus’ faithful wife, Penelope, who must fend off a slew of suitors while waiting for her husband to return home from war.
We’ll definitely see appearances from Greek gods and goddesses like Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon, and on the magical creature front, we can expect to see nymph Calypso, the legendary Cyclops, as well as those pesky Sirens (who even Taylor Swift alluded to in her latest music video).
So, we, the audience can only expect the best of the best from this project, (the last time anyone remade a Greek epic we got to see Brad Pitt’s naked butt), but for Page, this project holds an even more special personal meaning:
It was such a joy to come back, and to come back now, as you can imagine, being more just, comfortable in yourself makes these sorts of, you know, projects more enjoyable. Just waking up every day and going to work. So I kind of get to have a Chris Nolan experience again now. That actually really just meant so much to me, like, yeah, selfishly.
We love the connection between making art, and an artist’s personal journey. This movie literally can’t arrive soon enough!
