No One Asked For This: Carl From ‘Summer House’ Wrote A Memoir

"Cake Eater is a privileged upper middle-class person who is handed everything. While I was called this many times, that wasn’t my reality."

Carl Radke has been on Bravo’s Summer House since season 1. The show has followed his journey from mysterious party guy (“Where’s Carl?”) to sober supporter of his recent exes’ pregnancy with another man (see image below). Now, Summer House super fans can dive deeper into Carl’s story through his just-announced “unfiltered” memoir.

I’m a certified Carl hater, but it was admirable how he celebrated his ex Lindsay Hubbard’s pregnancy like a champ.

Titled Cake Eater: Getting High, Hitting Low and Trying to Stay in The Middle, Carl’s book looks to center on his personal life rather than the behind-the-scenes of Summer House. It will detail his sobriety journey, the (sincerely) tragic loss of his brother due to drugs, and perhaps his celibate status, which he revealed on the latest episode of Summer House.

The official description from Simon & Schuster reads:

Carl Radke’s path from reality TV’s party-loving star to a life centered around recovery has been anything but straightforward. Famous for his role on Summer House, Carl’s journey in the spotlight has forced him to confront personal battles under public scrutiny. Beyond the cameras, he’s faced struggles with addiction, the weight of toxic masculinity, the heartbreaking loss of his brother, and a quest to find real joy in a world that equates fun with alcohol.

The title, Cake Eater, sounds like a reference to the moment Lauren Wirkus shoved a cake in Carl’s face at a Fourth of July party in the show’s second season. However, Carl said on his Instagram the reference is to his upbringing in an upper class community:

Cake Eater is a privileged upper middle-class person who is handed everything. While I was called this many times, that wasn’t my reality. My book dives into my childhood, my family, my life in the public eye, my recovery and how I’m here today.
