Adapted from Shannon Pufahl’s acclaimed 2019 novel, the movie is poised to take audiences on a journey through love, identity, and societal expectations in post-war America. With a stellar cast and a powerful narrative, On Swift Horses promises to be one of the most talked-about releases of 2025.

Set in the 1950s, On Swift Horses follows the lives of Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her husband, Lee (Will Poulter), who seek to start anew in California following Lee’s return from the Korean War. However, their lives take an unexpected turn with the arrival of Lee’s younger brother, Julius (Jacob Elordi). A charismatic and enigmatic gambler, Julius harbors a hidden world of desires that lead him down a complicated and unconventional path.

As Julius moves to Las Vegas, he finds himself in a passionate yet secretive relationship with Henry (Diego Calva), a love that defies the rigid norms of the era. Meanwhile, Muriel embarks on her own journey of self-discovery, leading to a poignant exploration of personal freedom and forbidden romance.

Directed by Daniel Minahan, known for his work on Fellow Travelers and Deadwood: The Movie, the film is expected to offer a visually stunning and emotionally gripping portrayal of 1950s America. Screenwriter Bryce Kass has adapted the novel with meticulous attention to its themes of identity, desire, and the pursuit of authenticity. This film is also from producers of Call Me By Your Name and Nomadland.

The film is set for a nationwide theatrical release on April 25, 2025, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics.

Mark your calendars—this is one film you won’t want to miss.
