6 Comfort Movies To Watch When You’re Spiraling At 2 AM
No matter how tired you were before you crawled into bed, your brain fell into a spiral as soon as your head hit the pillow.
You could be replaying the failures of the day, missing your ex, or feeling understandably moody about the state of the world. What do you when it’s 2AM and you can’t fall asleep because your chaotic mind won’t let you? Watch these comfort movies to snap yourself out of it. And if you fall asleep before the end credits roll, so be it.
Shrek (2001)

Nothing hits quite like a fairy tale, especially one that has a killer soundtrack. Let Shrek and Donkey lull you to sleep as they argue over what’s better for a layer analogy: Onions or Parfaits. And if that doesn’t do it, Smash Mouth’s iconic songs will have you bopping your head in a way that’ll surely knock you out of your spiral.
Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Are you spiraling about your life? Do you feel like you’re stuck? Under the Tuscan Sun, about a woman who buys a crumbling villa after losing almost everything in her divorce, will show you that you can always make things better. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be Googling Tuscan villas for sale tomorrow morning.
Practical Magic (1998)

You think you have problems? At least your entire family line isn’t cursed to have the loves of their lives die in tragic accidents. So that’s something! Blend up some 2 AM margaritas while you’re at it.
Whisper of the Heart (1995)

Studio Ghibli is the GOAT when it comes to heartwarming comfort movies and this is by far my favorite. It’s a quiet slice-of-life story about a girl who love books and a boy who plays violin. It’s sweet and wholesome and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Sleeping with Other People (2015)

Starring Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Alison Brie (Together), this underrated rom com follows two people who admit they shouldn’t be together. Their unlikely friendship and growing attachment is like pouring maple syrup over your brain in all the best ways.
Encanto (2021)

There isn’t a monster or wizard wreaking havoc on Mirabel and her family–it’s just some good old fashioned generational trauma. If that’s what’s got you spiraling tonight, give this one a watch. No one talks about Bruno, but they should.
