Paramount+ Has The Best Sci-Fi Horror Movie You’ve Never Seen
Whenever people ask me about horror or sci fi movies or just films that I recommend that they might never have heard of, I always suggest this British alien film.
A band of bike-riding hoodlums. A nurse new to the block. Furry black Aliens fall from the sky, black as night. How will they defend the neighborhood? That’s the premise of the 2011 British sci-fi horror comedy, Attack the Block. Though it’s a high quality film full of laughs, scares, and plenty of heart, most Americans have never even heard of it–and that’s largely because it’s almost never on the streaming services. Luckily, Attack the Block is now on Paramount+ and this is your chance to finally see it. I’m telling you: It’s very much worth the watch. Here’s why:
Attack the Block has a unique premise and setting.
Most sci-fi movies are set in some kind of future if it’s on our planet at all. It’s usually led by scientists or fighters or “the one” who will solve all the problems. Attack the Block, on the other hand, is set in a poor residential block in the heart of London and features a cast of young hoodlums and the random adults who live in the same building. Seeing how these people handle a sudden Alien invasion is so incredibly fun.
It has an all-star British cast.
While this is a movie about an alien invasion, the sci-fi elements really take a backseat to the characters. From Jodie Whittaker’s Samantha (the 13th Doctor in Doctor Who) to John Boyega’s Moses (long before Star Wars launched him into stardom), there are people here that make the movie a must-watch. If you’re a fan of the Brits, you’ll also be happy to see Nick Frost as Ron and Luke Treadaway as Brewis.
It’s perfect for people who loved The Goonies or The Lost Boys.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good coming-of-age movie about a group of young people banding together. The 1980s was the best decade for it, with bangers like The Goonies and The Lost Boys. Attack the Block brings us back to a time when a group of kids could save the world as long as they can work together to outsmart the bad guys.
The character growth is phenomenal.
There’s a lot to love about Attack the Block including the story and the high-quality special effects, but it all comes down to character development. Although the film takes place across one night, you, the viewer, will have a complete 180 about a few characters by the time the credits roll. That’s just good writing. I won’t tell you who I’m talking about, though. You’ll just have to watch it.
