16 Romantasy Movies You Can Stream Right Now

Romantic fantasy novels are all the rage right now, so why not watch some romantasy movies when you need a literary break?

You smash romance and fantasy together and what do you get? If your FYP has been invaded by BookTok, you may think of some spicy novels about fairies or orcs or any number of magical creatures getting up to the kind of hijinks you blush over. But romantasy–the fun amalgamation of the romance and fantasy genres–isn’t relegated to just the smutty stuff you can get from the library. These romantasy movies are everything you need for a sizzlingly sweet night at home–and I’ll tell you exactly where you can stream them.

The Princess Bride (1987)

20th Century Fox

It’s the O.G. romantic fantasy movie that your boyfriend lists as his favorite every time you bring up rom coms. It’s got a cute-yet-handsome swashbuckler, an unforgettable princess, a man looking to avenge his father, and Rodents of Unusual Size. AKA, everything you could want. Watch The Princess Bride on Disney+.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

20th Century Fox

Tim Burton is about the only person in Hollywood who could make us fall for a man with scissors for hands. Well, us and a blond-haired Winona Ryder, who can’t help but crush on the outcast who lives in the weird gothic mansion overlooking her candy-colored suburban neighborhood. Watch Edward Scissorhands on Disney+.

Groundhog Day (1993)

Columbia Pictures

Phil keeps living the same day, Groundhog Day, over and over. It might take a lot of effort to find his way out of it. There’s something extra romantic about falling in love over and over again. While there are plenty of great and more recent time loop rom coms that you should also watch (like Happy Death Day and Palm Springs), the OG is a timeless (ha!) classic. Watch Groundhog Day on Amazon Video.

Practical Magic (1998)

Warner Bros.

Whether you want to celebrate the witchy vibes of fall, you love Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, or you just enjoy a good revenge story, this is it. And for once, the female lead is the fantastical one in this romantasy as a witch falling for a run-of-the-mill southern detective. We love a good role-reversal. Watch Practical Magic on PlutoTV.

Ella Enchanted (2004)

Anne Hathaway and Hugh Dancy in Ella Enchanted (2004)
Miramax

This movie is notable for a masterful and gender-swapped nerdy-to-hot movie montage for main character Tristan. Watch Stardust on Prime Video.

Twilight (2008)

Summit Entertainment

How can I not put the OG angsty vampire movie on this list? It was the YA romantasy book-turned-film before it was cool and it spurred a new generation of people wishing they could fall in love with a 100-year-old vampire in America’s gloomiest town. What more could you want? Watch Twilight on Amazon Video.

Beastly (2011)
