8 Ridiculously Disturbing Kidnapping Stories That Will Keep You Up At Night
Colleen Stan. Age 20. 1977.
Cameron Hooker, assisted by wife, Janice Hooker, kidnapped and sexually assaulted Colleen Stan, a 20-year-old girl on May 19, 1977 near Red Buff, California. Imprisoned for seven years, Stan was tortured, electro-shocked and made to believe that she was being watched by a powerful organisation, “The Company”. Hooker would keep Stan in coffin-sized boxes; put chains around her neck and body and put a blower to blow in air for 22-23 hours a day. Hooker was a sadist and used Stan as his sex slave and one of the boxes was under the bed he shared with his wife. Hooker was tried and sentenced to 104 years of imprisonment.
Shawn Hornbeck. Age 11. 2002.
Ben Ownby. Age 13. 2007.
11-year-old Shawn Hornbeck was kidnapped on October, 2002 by Michael Devlin while going to his friend’s house on a bike. Shawn would be tied, tortured, terrorized and sexually assaulted over years. In 2007, Devlin abducted a 13-year old boy, Ben Ownby and used to molest him at least four times a day. The two boys were found when police discovered the white truck that a witness mentioned seeing during Ownby’s abduction in front of Devlin’s home.
Fusako Sano. Age 9. 1990.
Fusako Sano, a 9-year-old Japanese girl was kidnapped by a 28-year-old mentally disturbed unemployed man, Nobuyuki Satõ. Satõ’s mother lived downstairs and had no knowledge of Sano since he used to become very violent whenever she tried to go upstairs. For nine years Sano was held captive where she was tied up, shaved, beaten, threatened and punished with stun gun. The police were criticised on accounts of complained lodged numerous times on accounts of violence.
Masego Kgomo. Age 10. 2009.
Masego Kgomo, a South African girl went missing near her home in Pretoria, on 31 December, 2009. She was murdered in order to sell some of her body parts to a ‘sangoma’ so that her organs could be used for medicinal remedies. Five people were initially charged but on 28 November, 2011, 30-year-old, Brian Mangwale was charged guilty of her murder and kidnapping and sentenced to life time imprisonment.
The Frog Boys. Age 9 – 13. 1991.
The Frog Boys, a group of five South Korean boys between 9 to 13 years of age, disappeared on March 26, 1991 while frog-hunting near the streams of Mount Waryong. All efforts proved fruitless and 11 years later their bodies were found. The boys had suffered blunt force traumas to their skulls and forensic experts said that one of them had been shot in the head with a shotgun. In 2006, the statute of limitations for their murder passed and the case remains unsolved.
Sabine Dardenne. Age 12. 1996.
Laetitia Delhez. Age 14. 1996.
Sabine Dardenne was kidnapped at the age of 12 by the child molester and serial killer Marc Dutroux. She was followed by Laetitia Delhez, a 14-year-old, who was kidnapped because Dardenne had demanded a girl-friend. Both the captives survived but the previous four kidnap victims could not. He had chained her in his cellar, starved her, and regularly raped her. Delhez’s kidnapping became his undoing as people saw him. It took eight years for the case to come to trial. Dutrox had later claimed to be part of a pedophile ring that consisted of very powerful citizens.
Renée Hartevelt. Age 25. 1981.
Issei Sagawa, a Japanese author, murdered his Sorbonne classmate, a 25-year-old Dutch woman named Renée Hartevelt in 1981. He shot her in the neck with a rifle. He then raped her corpse and tried eating it. Unable to bite, he left the apartment to purchase a butcher knife. For two days, he ate and refrigerated various parts of her body. He then attempted to dump her body in a lake, but was caught in the act by French police with two suitcases containing the body parts of Hartevelt. After being held for two years without trial, Sagawa was declared mentally disturbed and unfit to stand for trial by the French court. He was sent and held in a mental institution indefinitely.
Alessia and Livia Schepp. Age 6. 2011.
Two 6-year-old Swiss twin girls, Alessia and Livia Schepp, disappeared on January 30, 2011 after being last seen with their father, Matthias Schepp. A few days later, his body was found near a railway station in Italy, where he had committed suicide. The twins have never been found and although there is no proof of them being murdered, a postcard was sent to the wife by Matthias stating that the twins were resting in peace.
