5 Shows To Watch While You Wait For ‘The Wheel Of Time’ Season 3
Excited for The Wheel of Time Season 3? Here are 5 shows to keep you occupied until the fantasy series hits Amazon Prime Video.
The Wheel of Time Season 3 rolls onto Amazon Prime Video in March 2025.
There’s a huge expectation that the show continues to deliver the magic – pardon the pun – like the previous seasons. As it stands, the fantasy series holds a 83% critical approval rating and 70% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that more than two thirds of the people who watched it gave it a thumbs up. Consensus about anything in 2025 is a lot like discovering the GPS coordinates for Narnia, so this is a huge achievement for a beloved IP like The Wheel of Time.
So, while you wait for Moiraine and the crew to return for magical adventures – or even to pass the time in between the weekly episodes – here are five similar shows to watch until then.
Shadow and Bone

Fantasy series hold the potential to become overwhelming, especially when they include a lot of main characters. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s novels, Netflix’s Shadow and Bone chooses a less-is-more approach, centering the story around Alina Starkov who discovers she’s a Grisha and possesses magical powers that could save her world. Yes, there are fun side characters like the Crows who get up to all kinds of madcap adventures, but this is Alina’s story. In addition, fans receive the opportunity to see Ben Barnes turn in a barnstorming performance as the evil but complicated Darkling here. It’s still a pity that Netflix cancelled this beloved series after just two seasons, but it’s to be expected by now since love is pain when it comes to that streaming service.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

There are mixed feelings toward The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, especially from fans who devoured J. R. R. Tolkien’s works. While most diehards forgave Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films for taking a little bit of creative license here and there, many wrote off the Amazon Prime Video as nothing more than a bastardization of the source material. Yet, when someone looks at the show as its own adaptation – without the shackles of lore – it’s a very good epic fantasy series. It provides a thorough explanation of how those pesky and precious rings came to be, while also painting more of a backstory about Sauron and his rise as the big bad of Middle-earth.
Game of Thrones

Fun fact: Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series inspired George R. R. Martin to write Game of Thrones. It’s easy to see the influence scattered all over the story about the battle for the Iron Throne, especially in terms of the multi protagonists and expansive worldbuilding. That being said, Game of Thrones walked as a TV show so that The Wheel of Time could run, since nobody was in the fantasy business until HBO saw the series turn into a ratings and pop culture juggernaut. Amazon Prime Video wanted its own version of Game of Thrones (who doesn’t, really?), so it ironically secured itself the story that inspired the Seven Kingdoms to begin with.
The Witcher

When it comes to fantasy, The Witcher leans more on the action side than the other series on this list. Yet, don’t let that distract you from the fact that Geralt of Rivia possesses outrageous abilities to slay monsters, demons, and madmen. The first season serves as a jumbled introduction to the witcher and his past; however, when he meets Ciri, his destiny becomes clearer: He’s meant to protect her from all danger and train her. Let’s be real, though: The series ended when Henry Cavill departed as Geralt, because no one is excited to see Liam Hemsworth take over the role. No disrespect, Liam, but The Witcher died with Cavill’s departure – no one wants to toss a coin to you. Not even Jaskier’s earworms can save the Netflix show now.
Cursed

If you only have a few hours to spare, then spend it with Cursed since it’s only a single season consisting of 10 episodes. Based on Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler’s illustrated novel, the show tells a reimagined version of the King Arthur tale. In this story, Nimue – who will go on to become the fabled Lady of the Lake – gets entrusted with the powerful sword, which everyone knows as Excalibur, and needs to protect it from nefarious forces. There’s no shortage of action, adventure, and magic in this Netflix series, even though it had its legs cut off before it could go on a lengthier run.
