All I Wanted Was A Life Of Power But I Paid For It With My Soul

If you had three wishes, what would you choose? What wishes would be worth the price of your soul?

“Yes, you did, and with that, you’ve completed the ritual. You have bound yourself to me, for all time. Your soul belongs to me.”

I looked up at him, a little incredulous. Did this guy really expect me to believe in souls?

Apparently, he did.

“From now on, what I tell you to do, you will do without question. We will have a great many years together, so I suggest you accept your fate as quickly as possible.”

With that, Oscar – or whatever its name was – lumbered towards my apartment door. I ran after him and said, “Wait a second, what about my third wish?!”

Oscar looked back to me, still grinning like a freak. “Oh, don’t worry. You will become as powerful as anyone can ever imagine. It will be a great help to my master and I.”

With that, Oscar disappeared into the night.

All of this happened last night. I know that, at 3 am, Oscar is going to come back for me. What he’ll want from me this time, I don’t know.

I didn’t give much thought to the wishes when he offered them to me. I didn’t think much about what he wanted in return, either. I thought it was a trade… I didn’t realize that it was a contract.

But it looks like now I’m stuck with Oscar for good. It’s not all bad, I think – he didn’t go back on his promises. My student loans are history, and Ruby still came by this morning to fuck me senseless. I have no doubt that I will rise to power and be able to use it as I see fit… or as Oscar sees fit.

No… I guess it’s not all bad. But some things still don’t sit quite right with me.

So, what I want to ask now, is this: if you had three wishes, what would you choose? What wishes would be worth the price of your soul? Thought Catalog Logo Mark
