The 5 Best Football Movies To Get You Pumped For Football Season
Can you feel that? There’s a crisp chill in the air and a subtle calm every Sunday. That can only mean one thing — it’s football season.
Once pumpkin spice starts releasing in stores and the remnants of summer start to fade away we all know it’s time to don our favorite jerseys and cheer for the worst teams like they’re the best teams (I’m looking at you, Bears). Every Sunday it’s time to tune into your favorite team, but if you can’t get enough football, there’s also a way to get your fix during the week to keep the spirit alive. There are so many to choose from, but here are some of the 5 best football movies to watch this season.
Little Giants (1994)

Little Giants is amazing, and I will be taking no further questions or comments about it. It’s the story of a misfits team that comes together after the town’s only team rejects Becky from playing. Becky’s dad gets convinced to put together another team and play for the title of the town, where he will compete against his brother. Little Giants is available to rent on Prime Video.
Any Given Sunday (1999)

Any Given Sunday is one of my favorite football movies ever and Al Pacino in this role always pumps me up when I need extra motivation. Any Given Sunday is about a team that is backsliding, struggling with loss, and losing their fanbase. It’s also about a coach who is dealing with divorce while juggling how to handle the president of his failing team. It’s a comeback story that is relatable for anyone who has ever dealt with a slight bit of adversity. Any Given Sunday is available to rent on Prime Video.
The Replacements (2000)

The Replacements is based on the NFL’s labor dispute back in 1987 and Keanu Reeves plays Shane Falco, a replacement player that is expected to take the Washington Sentinels all through the playoffs. Falco and a crew of outsiders were scouted by a legendary coach after the original starters went on strike and they hoped these players would be enough to win a title. The Replacements is laugh out loud funny and is available to rent on Prime Video.
Remember The Titans (2000)

Based on a true story, I would be remiss not to add Remember The Titans to this list. The movie is about a high school in Alexandria, Virginia where football is the only way of life. After the high school makes the move to integrate an all black school with an all white school, the teams must come together to play this country’s greatest game. It’s a testament to what tradition and the love of the game can do for people who initially resist coming together. Remember The Titans is streaming on Disney+.
Rudy (1993)

Rudy is based on the true story of Rudy Ruettiger, a man who wants to play football at The University of Notre Dame no matter what it takes. I grew up around Notre Dame football, so I might be slightly biased to this movie, but it’s an inspiring story that has the potential to make you tear up. Despite having no money and not the best grades and dealing with some workplace trauma, Rudy hires a tutor to help him study and get grades good enough to get into the prestigious Notre Dame. From there, he fights even harder to make the football team. Rudy is streaming on Netflix.
