4 TV Shows That Have Been Cancelled This Year But Totally Shouldn’t Have

This is just a shame...

There’s no shortage of things to watch nowadays between all the streaming services and new release movies coming out, but not all of the good ones make it.

TV series have it especially tough because the margin for error is so low. Your first episode takes too long to get to the point? No one watches. Do you add any controversial elements? Someone doesn’t like it and the rating plummets. Maybe, your show is great but it didn’t get nominated for any awards. Unfortunately, that can impact the success of future seasons. In any regard, we have all been victims of our favorite shows not being renewed for another season and that will be a void in my heart that can never be filled. From the TV series graveyard, here are 4 shows that shouldn’t have been cancelled.

Based On A True Story

Peacock

Based On A True Story is a really fun true-crime satire series on Peacock. It stars Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as a couple running out of luck and happiness as they uncover a secret that could make them a ton of money. They realize their plumber-turned-family-friend is the neighborhood serial killer. The obvious next step to finding out that information is to hold the killer against his will and convince him to make a podcast with you. So that’s what the unhappy couple does, but dealing with a serial killer isn’t as totally easy as it sounds. Initially there was interest in renewing for a season 3, but Peacock cancelled the show after two seasons without explicitly listing a reason.

Cruel Intentions

Amazon Prime Video

Cruel Intentions is a remake of the 1999 film with the same name, but unfortunately Prime Video cancelled it after just one season. The show is about a pair of wealthy step siblings, played by Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess, that attend a private school in Washington, DC. These wealthy twins think the world is their oyster, so they make bets and toy with other’s lives to serve their agenda. The show is steamy, socially accurate, and jaw-dropping. Cruel Intentions wasn’t renewed for a second season as the fan perception of it fell a little short of what the original movie did in the late 90s.

How To Die Alone

Hulu

Natasha Rothwell is the creator and star of How To Die Alone, a story about a JFK airport worker who has a near-death experience and decides that she can’t keep living without dreams and ambitions. She starts to regain her confidence and take her life back, even if it’s messy, scary, and satirical. Rothwell was just as shocked as many fans were at Hulu’s cancellation of the show, stating that she and the team will be shopping among other networks and services to keep How To Die Alone alive.

The Recruit

Noah Centineo seems to turn everything he touches to viewership gold, but he just couldn’t get The Recruit to that same status. This show is a little different from what he typically does in a teen rom-com role, but The Recruit is an action-packed spy thriller on Netflix. Centineo is the leading man of the show and gets caught up in international affairs as a CIA agent. One week after season two of The Recruit was released, the show was cancelled. This surprised many fans who felt there was a lot of story left to flesh out.
