Watch The 4 Most Disturbing ‘Black Mirror’ Episodes Before Season 7

Before you tuck into Season 7, watch these 'Black Mirror' gems.

Black Mirror season 7 is back on Netflix and all six episodes are sure to make viewers go, “wtf?”.

Black Mirror is a stand-alone drama show reminiscent of The Twilight Zone and features episodes that are heavy in technology-related paranoia. Each episode has a unique premise and its own cast of characters, making it almost like an anthology of short horror-drama movies for you to indulge in. In honor of the new season, let’s take a look back at previous seasons and narrow down 4 of the most disturbing episodes that left a lasting impact on viewers everywhere.

“The National Anthem” – Season 1, Episode 1

Netflix

Black Mirror came out of the gate with the most disturbing episode ever, and we will never ever forget it. This episode follows a British prime minister and how he responds to a member of the Royal family being taken hostage. The Princess, the one being held hostage, will be released not for ransom but only if the Prime Minister fornicates with a pig. To take it one step further, he must do so on live television. After trying to find ways around it and trying to locate the Princess, the Prime Minister gives in and ruins his reputation publicly. The worst part? The Princess was released thirty minutes before the live broadcast, so it wasn’t necessary for the Prime Minister to commit the dirty deed after all.

“Shut Up And Dance” – Season 3, Episode 3

Netflix

Shut Up And Dance is twisty and turny and incredibly dark for multiple reasons. 19-year-old Kenny is blackmailed by online hackers after they catch him masturbating on camera. The hackers threaten to release the tape unless he commits dangerous acts that are sent to him via text. We don’t know what Kenny has done wrong, but as the episode progresses, we learn that he is masturbating to photos of underage children and is a pedophile. After Kenny has acted out some of the crimes he’s asked to, the video of him is leaked along with a few others who were in the same situation as Kenny.

“Arkangel” – Season 4, Episode 2

Netflix

Helicopter parenting is so real, and it can be incredibly harmful as we find in Arkangel. Marie, the mother of a young daughter named Sara, seeks out an implantation chip to put inside of Sara after she wandered off and almost got lost. The chip allows Marie to track Sara, but it also allows her to record her memories, provides their unique perspective view, censors anything that will raise her heart rate, and records health-related data. The chip takes it all a little too far, and Marie crosses the line when she crushes up a pill and places it in Sara’s smoothie to force an abortion.

“White Bear” – Season 2, Episode 2

Netflix

White Bear starts off without any context as a woman wakes up without any memory of any moments before waking. She exits her home and realizes the whole town is eerily quiet and they’re all recording her. Soon, a man with a shotgun starts chasing after her as everyone keeps recording. At first this all seems really cruel and confusing because why is she being hunted and recorded, but we eventually learn she is an accessory to a murder and her criminal history becomes very shocking.
