Fever Pitch

4 Movies That Brush Winter Cobwebs From Your Mind

By

The sun is shining and I’ve fully formed back into a human after the lack of sun took it’s toll on me this winter.

Now that temperatures are rising and the days are longer, I’m enjoying more time outside and you should be too! However, when it is time to unwind and relax after a long day, I want to keep the good vibes of the spring day going. There are movies that feel like a fever dream and movies that make you feel like you’re in a cute fall rom-com, but there are also movies that make you feel like springtime and we can lean into those as the weather shifts. Here are 4 movies to watch right now if you’re wanting a little extra spring breeze.

Big Fish (2003)

Big Fish is the one Tim Burton movie that I love that falls outside of his normal dreary, black and white style. Big Fish is bright and bold and colorful and everything on screen is so brilliant. Big Fish is about a father and son duo who haven’t always connected. The son feels he is never told the truth from his father about his life, but as his father lays on his deathbed and continues to tell fanatical stories, the son decides it’s time to look into the stories and figure out the truth. This movie tells so many beautiful stories with dazzling on-screen visuals that it’s the perfect start to the spring season.

Someone Great (2019)

Someone Great is a Netflix  movie that I have cemented as a comfort movie, no matter how heart wrenching it can be. In this movie, a longtime relationship comes to a screeching halt as a music journalist gets dumped after receiving a new job that would require the relationship to endure long-distance. Reeling from the loss of the relationship, a girl enlists her two best friends to have one last hurrah before she leaves New York for San Francisco. What makes Someone Great a springtime film is the feeling of new beginnings. Spring always feels like the time when everything changes and things come to life and dead ends fall off, and this movie helps to kick start that newness feeling.

Fever Pitch (2005)

If you’re a baseball fan, you know that springtime is when the season begins and everything is right in the world again. Fever Pitch is the epitome of springtime and baseball season through the eyes of a very devout Red Sox fan. In Fever Pitch, an unlikely duo start to fall in love despite not having a lot of commonality. The relationship starts before baseball season starts, and when it does, the girlfriend realizes just how serious her new boyfriend is about the Red Sox and it almost ruins their relationship. Despite all that messiness, Fever Pitch shows how Boston starts blooming in the springtime and how beautiful the world gets after the winter drab fades.

The Secret Garden (1993)

The Secret Garden is a throwback, but it is so beautiful and all about bringing things back to life and just how gorgeous a full, lush garden can be. A young girl is sent to live with her uncle after her parents, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows just yet. The young girl has a hard time connecting with her uncle because of his naturally gloomy disposition, so she tries to find things to fill her time and prevent her loneliness. After strolling the grounds of his estate, she finds a withered garden that she, with the help of a young boy, is determined to bring back to glory and see the beauty of the flowers again.
