This is an obvious choice and I have to admit, I am really late to the game with watching Squid Game. It took me a little while to warm up to the possibility of watching because of all the hype around it, but it totally lives up to it all. Squid Game is about hundreds of people in South Korea who are having money troubles and how they become enmeshed in a killer children’s game competition. Sounds easy enough, except if you don’t win the games, you die. Seriously, if you’ve been waiting to check it out, do so right now!
Dark
Dark is a German sci-fi thriller that deserves its flowers. Dark is about two children going missing from a small town and how some curious people seek out the missing children and discover some deep, dark, sinister secrets about double lives, and the Chernobyl incident. Dark is, well, a very dark show and it is so twisty and not what you’d expect.
Money Heist
If you haven’t seen Money Heist, I am truly very shocked because it has been one of the best shows in so many countries, even outside of its origin location of Spain. The show is all about “The Professor” and how he intends to pull off the biggest heist in history. He gathers together a ragtag crew of eight who all have different skills to bring to the table and they work together to fight off the police and take the money they feel is deserved.
Young Royals
Young Royals is a Polish teen drama that delivers everything you’d expect from a teen drama; sex, drugs, questionable friendships, and forbidden romances. The show follows a young Prince as he has to learn to adjust to live inside a boarding school after a PR-related incident that forced him away. Young Royals isn’t exactly anything groundbreaking, but cultural differences provide a fresh perspective to the genre that we already know and enjoy.
Marianne
Marianne is the perfect French show for a horror lover, but unfortunately, there is only one season to watch with no plans to make a second season. Marianne is about a famous horror writer who returns to her hometown to confront the evil spirit that she is constantly plagued by in her dreams. Marianne has a very Stephen King-esque feel to it. There are truly unsettling visuals and the perfect amount of anticipation to create huge scares.
