The Perfect Couple / Netflix

School is back in session, work is picking up because it’s the end of Q3, and we are getting dangerously close to fall season, so that can only mean one thing; new shows are hitting our screens. Network and streaming shows have a tall task of entertaining us as we transition from our summer selves to fall selves, and there are some pretty exciting things to anticipate as September begins. Let’s take a look at 5 shows you can plan to binge-watch over the next few weeks.

English Teacher

FX

FX is releasing English Teacher on September 2nd, and this half-hour comedy series is set to be a hit. Brian Jordan Alvarez, a TikTok star, is playing an English teacher in Austin, Texas who is struggling to juggle his love life and his work, much like the rest of us are. English Teacher appears as though it’ll be deeply related to anyone who is trying to find the delicate balance between working too much and not doing enough.

The Perfect Couple

Netflix

Premiering on Netflix, The Perfect Couple is an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s best-selling novel and is a six-episode limited series that we can’t wait to see. Nicole Kidman and Liev Schrieber star in the murder mystery that centers around a wedding, a best-selling novelist, and a body washing ashore on the beach where the wedding is taking place. When a body appears, secrets and lies reveal themselves and anyone can become a suspect. The Perfect Couple will be premiering on Netflix on September 5th.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives

Hulu

I don’t know about you, but I love a good reality TV docuseries. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is going to be a wild ride, I can feel it. Premiering on Hulu on September 6th, SLMW will document a friend group within a Mormon community that rises to internet sensational fame. The moms in the group become influencers, but that community is severed a bit when they learn there are swingers among them. I’m already prepping my popcorn for this one.

How To Die Alone

Hulu

Another Hulu premiere is How To Die Alone on September 13th. Natasha Rothwell stars as Mel, a broke JFK airport employee who nearly dies and decides that just existing isn’t enough; she wants to live life. The heartfelt premise is destined to bring us a ton of laughter and likely a few tears as well. Life isn’t meant to be just casually lived, it’s meant to be experienced, and How To Die Alone will drive that home for anyone who goes through the motions daily.

The Penguin

HBO

HBO is stepping up to the plate by releasing The Penguin on September 19th. You guessed it, The Penguin is a spin-off of the Gotham universe starring Colin Farrell as the titular character. In the series, we see Oswald Cobblepot grow into a Gotham gangster and how he got to be what we know him as in all of the variations of Batman. There are expected to be eight episodes in the series and everyone loves a good backstory, so this will only add to our Batman universe knowledge.
