8 Fan-Favorite DC Characters Who Could Pop Up In ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2

Are your favorite DC characters popping up in Season 2?

James Gunn’s DCU is only continuing to take shape as time draws on.

With anticipation for new releases like Superman and Supergirl at an all-time high, the former Guardians of the Galaxy director has no doubt been hard at work setting the stage for DC’s largest expansion since the early 2010s, spelling out renewed hope for Marvel’s foremost creative rival.

As part of this new push for additional DC content, Gunn has also channeled his creative efforts into the long-awaited second season for HBO’s Peacemaker. With potential surprises laying ahead in Season 2 of the John Cena-led superhero series, it’s worth wondering which heroes and villains could feasibly appear in Peacemaker, including plenty of iconic faces from DC’s comic book universe.

Bloodsport

It’s been roughly four years since viewers last saw Idris Elba’s combat-proficient mercenary Bloodsport in 2021’s The Suicide Squad. With Elba handing in a notably entertaining performance as the relatively obscure DC supervillain, fans remain hopeful that they’ll one day see Elba don the xenomorph-like mask of Robert DuBois in a future DC project. That being said, we’d be remiss if we didn’t wonder at the possibilities that lay behind a Bloodsport return in a future Peacemaker episode, complete with the nonstop banter between Elba and Cena’s diametrically opposed lead supervillains.

Harley Quinn

To be sure, the original DCEU did many, many, many things wrong, but one thing the series certainly did right was casting Margot Robbie as the Joker’s chaotic love interest, Harley Quinn. With Robbie knocking it out of the park as the demented supervillain of Batman’s rogues gallery, there’s no question we’d absolutely love to see Robbie reprise her role as Quinn in additional DC media, be it in a one-off episode of Peacemaker or a cameo in Superman or Supergirl.

The Question

Gunn has continuously looked back to fairly obscure characters for his iteration of the DCU, as seen through the appearances of Peacemaker, Vigilante, and Judomaster, among many others. Of course, one notable fan-favorite character missing from Gunn’s lineup is the faceless, hard-boiled superhero detective, The Question. A fellow creation from Charlton Comics alongside Peacemaker, The Question could make for a fascinating addition to Peacemaker’s characteristically humorous atmosphere, allowing for plenty of standout moments between the taciturn Question and Cena’s loud-mouthed anti-hero.

Bat-Mite

James Gunn has repeatedly teased a “really, really, really big cameo” near the end of Peacemaker’s second season. While most people might wonder whether this alludes to Superman, Batman, or Lex Luthor, it’s also not outside the realm of possibility that Gunn’s comments are merely meant to misdirect dedicated DC fans across the globe.

With that in mind, might this “really big cameo” instead revolve around a pint-sized character like Bat-Mite, the self-professed “number one fan” of Gotham’s Dark Knight? With Gunn hardly a stranger to comedic subject material, we wouldn’t be surprised if Bat-Mite somehow played a small role in Peacemaker Season 2, hilariously trolling each of us who hoped to see Batman or Superman play a central role in the series.

Lex Luthor

Audiences can expect to see a number of tie-ins to Superman in the upcoming season of Peacemaker, including appearances from prominent characters like Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord. As exciting as it is to see these recognizable faces return for Peacemaker, it’s also worth wondering what other big-name DC characters could cameo in Gunn’s HBO show. Can we, for example, expect to see an appearance from Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor?

The big bad of Gunn’s Superman, Hoult seems poised to hand in an incredible performance as the Man of Steel’s arch-nemesis, lending further credibility to the character after Jesse Eisenberg’s disappointing outing in the earlier DCEU.

Wonder Woman

As of yet, most of DC’s main superheroes have yet to receive formal casting, be it Batman, Aquaman, Green Arrow, or the Amazonian princess, Wonder Woman. With Gal Gadot not currently slated to return to the role, we can only wonder about which actor Gunn is eyeing for the famed DC superhero. Sure, the chances of her popping up in Peacemaker are pretty slim, but it’s almost guaranteed every DC fan would jump out of their chairs the moment Diana Prince soared across our screens.

Batman

With the next Batman film (The Brave and the Bold) currently locked in early development, we still have no clue who will step into the role of Gotham City’s resident protector. While it’s unlikely we’ll receive a formal announcement for the casting any time soon, there is at least a miniscule possibility DC’s Caped Crusader could factor into the events of Peacemaker’s second season. With the “big cameo” Gunn promised in the show still cause for speculation, there’s no doubt fans would jump for joy seeing the prong-eared silhouette of Bruce Wayne somewhere in Peacemaker Season 2.

Superman

Many superhero fans have expressed their rampant enthusiasm for Gunn’s upcoming film, Superman. Among the most highly anticipated releases of 2025, the film promises to reignite interest in the fledgling DCU, cementing the series as a legitimate competitor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Peacemaker featuring numerous connections to Gunn’s latest venture, it’s reasonable to assume the “big cameo” Gunn has alluded to will likely be the Big Blue Boy Scout himself, with David Corensweet reprising his role from the upcoming summer blockbuster.

The second season of Peacemaker debuts on Max on August 21, 2025.
