Every Confirmed Character Slated For ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Are your favorite characters going to be in the next 'Avengers' movie? There's a good chance they are.

What a fantastic time to be a Marvel fan.

As the Avengers continue to assemble in Hollywood, viewers’ expectations for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday have been running wild. Though plot details have remained relatively scarce for Marvel’s latest venture, the studio has since announced an extensive cast list for the newest Avengers outing, including plenty of familiar faces from the MCU’s past – and more than a few names making their debut in the mainline Marvel continuity. With that being said, here is every confirmed character set to appear in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.

Captain America and the Falcon

Fresh off his momentous solo debut with Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie will return to Avengers: Doomsday as the patriotic supersoldier, Captain America. Additionally, Mackie’s successor to the Falcon mantle, Danny Ramirez, will also reprise his role as Captain America’s aerial pack-powered partner, Falcon: a character he previously portrayed in Brave New World and its immediate predecessor, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The Fantastic Four

Among the more notable projects on Marvel’s horizon, audiences are ringing their hands in anticipation of the upcoming Fantastic Reboot reboot, First Steps. Viewers may have spent over a decade wondering whether the Fantastic Four would one day end up in a mainstream Avengers film, but Marvel has since confirmed that all four members of the superpowered quarter – IE Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Susan Storm (Vanessa Kirby), The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) – will play a central role in Doomsday’s narrative.

The X-Men

Perhaps the most exciting cast announcement for Doomsday involved the various actors from Fox’s X-Men films, many of whom will make their long-awaited debut in the MCU. After previously portraying a version of the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Patrick Stewart will once again play the X-Men’s telepathic leader, Professor X. Joining him are a string of actors from the X-Men’s past filmography, including Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops).

While he never officially appeared in a standalone X-Men film, Channing Tatum’s breakout X-Men character Gambit will also return for Doomsday, reprising his fan-favorite role from 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Thor

It’s been a hot minute since we last saw Chris Hemsworth’s chiseled God of Thunder, Thor, in the MCU. Fortunately, four years after his previous appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth will make his return to the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday. As of yet, it’s not currently known whether Thor’s new sidekick Love from Love and Thunder (portrayed by Hemsworth’s real-life daughter, India) will reprise her role as well.

Loki

Like his on-screen brother Thor, Tom Hiddleston will similarly return to his role as everyone’s favorite God of Mischief, Loki, in Avengers: Doomsday. Last seen overseeing the Multiverse as He Who Remains’ successor, it’ll be interesting to see whether the character we see in Doomsday appears as a variant of Loki or the character we last saw in his self-named Disney+ series. No matter what, viewers hold out strong hopes Hiddleston shares some screentime with the aforementioned Chris Hemsworth, seven years after their emotional farewell in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Thunderbolts

The Fantastic Four and the X-Men aren’t the only superhuman group set to play a part in Avengers: Doomsday. Like their high-profile counterparts, the dysfunctional Thunderbolts will also appear in Doomsday, complete with returning appearances from Yelena (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Sentry (Lewis Pullman), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and the de facto team leader, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).

Ant-Man

The biggest little man in the MCU, Paul Rudd’s endlessly hilarious insect-sized superhero Ant-Man is set to fill out a central role in Doomsday’s plot line. As one of the main characters to contend with the growing threat Kang posed to the Multiverse, it’s worth wondering how Ant-Man could figure into the overall premise of Doomsday. No matter what, though, we’re sure Rudd will leave fans smiling from ear to ear with his ceaseless one-liners and distinctly energetic comedic timing.

Black Panther

Inheriting the Black Panther mantle from the late great Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright will make her first appearance as an Avenger with the upcoming Doomsday. Grieving the loss of both her brother and mother, audiences last saw Shuri leading Wakanda into a successful conflict against the undersea kingdom of Talokan. Forging a stable alliance with their former adversaries, Shuri formally adopts the Black Panther moniker by the end of Wakanda Forever, vowing to live up to the legacy left behind by her brother, T’Challa.

Namor

A somewhat surprising addition to Avengers: Doomsday, Tenoch Huerta’s reformed villain Namor will appear alongside his former nemesis Black Panther in the latest MCU film, capitalizing on Namor and Shuri’s previous encounters at the end of Wakanda Forever. Though initially portrayed as the relentless king of Talokan, Namor takes on a far more benevolent personality by the conclusion of the film, establishing himself as a staunch ally to Black Panther in the immediate years ahead.

M’Baku

A former rival-turned-reliable supporter of T’Challa and, later, Shuri, Winston Duke’s M’Baku will appear alongside the new Black Panther in Avengers: Doomsday. The leader of the Jabari and seemingly the new king of Wakanda, M’Baku has aided the Avengers in some of their most important past missions, personally spearheading the Jabari in two separate battles against Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame. With that in mind, it’s worth wondering how he might affect the plot of Doomsday moving forward.

Shang-Chi

Making his official debut in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu’s master martial artist is set to figure into the main plot of Avengers: Doomsday, marking the character’s second appearance in the mainstream MCU. Inheriting the mythic ten rings from his father Wenwu, The Legend of the Ten Rings concludes with Shang-Chi meeting Avengers Bruce Banner and Captain Marvel to discuss the origins of the rings and a mysterious signal omitted from the furthest reaches of the universe.

Doctor Doom

While Marvel had already disclosed Robert Downey Jr.’s will star in Avengers: Doomsday, fans continue to express their avid anticipation for seeing the actor return to the MCU. This time around, however, RDJ won’t be playing the dry-witted mechanical superhero, Iron Man. Instead, he’ll portray the iron-masked arch-enemy of the Fantastic Four, Victor Von Doom (better known by his villainous alter ego, Doctor Doom). Details about Doom’s uncanny resemblance to the deceased Tony Stark are still cause for speculation, but there’s no question audiences are eager to see Downey step foot into a Marvel film once again – especially given his role as the next overarching villain of the MCU.
