Since the late 1990s, the network has made a name for itself as a reliable provider of premium content, whether discussing an early classic like The Sopranos or a more recent success like House of the Dragon.
As the end of the year approaches, it seems like HBO’s immediate future is brighter than ever, with 2025 promising to be another exciting year for the lauded television network. From bone-chilling horror series to ambitious fantasy epics, here is every new series arriving on HBO in 2025.
It: Welcome to Derry
Stephen King fans, rejoice! Nearly six years after the release of 2019’s It: Part II, Andy Muschietti’s hit horror adaptation will see a brand-new continuation with It: Welcome to Derry. Though details about the prequel series have been relatively scarce, we do know that Bill Skarsgård is set to return to his breakthrough role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown – which is reason enough to be excited about this 2025 horror series.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
The third adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s ever-growing Game of Thrones universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms adapts Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series for the small screen. Set 100 years after House of the Dragon and a little less than a century before Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms focuses on the budding friendship between ordinary knight Sir Duncan the Tall and his Targaryan squire, Aegon (more affectionately known by his nickname, Egg).
The White Lotus Season 3
Roughly two years after the release of The White Lotus season 2, HBO’s sharply-written dark comedy returns with its highly anticipated third season. Transporting viewers to the tropical paradise of Thailand, The White Lotus’s upcoming season boasts yet another all-star ensemble cast, including such celebrated actors as Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, and Parker Posey, among many others.
The Last of Us Season 2
Having earned avid acclaim for its lauded first season, expectations are higher than ever for The Last of Us’s season 2. If the inaugural season was any indication, though, The Last of Us’s second season is likely to be every bit as enthralling as its first. Using 2020’s The Last of Us Part II as its primary source of inspiration, the show’s new season will incorporate various characters and storylines from the original game, including Kaitlyn Dever’s vengeful Abby and Jeffrey Wright’s jaded military leader, Isaac.
The Gilded Age Season 3
Those interested in seeing the opulent exploits of the nouveau riche Russell family won’t have to wait much longer, with the third season of The Gilded Age expected to drop some time next year. As with each of its previous seasons, The Gilded Age seems destined to continue its careful recreation of 1880s New York City, right down to its in-depth examination of wealth, class, and the ongoing cultural conflicts between old and new money.
And Just Like That… Season 3
A sequel continuation of HBO’s successful comedy Sex and the City, And Just Like That… continues the romantic misadventures of Sarah Jessica Parker’s lovable misfit, Carrie Bradshaw. As with its preceding two seasons, And Just Like That… will continue to explore the challenges Carrie and her friends face as they grapple with relationships in their 50s, carrying on after Carrie’s cathartic heart-to-heart with Aiden in the series’ season 2 finale.
Duster
As of yet, information surrounding HBO’s upcoming crime series Duster have been kept mostly under wraps. Created by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, what we do know is that the series is set in 1972, specifically following the F.B.I.’s first Black female agent as she investigates a Southwestern criminal organization. In addition, Abrams’ previous collaborator, Josh Holloway, has been cast in a lead role, alongside Rachel Hilson, Camille Guaty, Greg Grunberg, and Keith David.
The Pitt
After making a name for himself in NBC’s iconic series E.R., Noah Wyle returns to the medical drama genre with his latest series, The Pitt. Set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Pitt bills itself as a more realistic exploration of the American healthcare system, complete with a nuanced look at the hospital’s various struggling staff members. Though some fans might wish to see more of Wyle’s compassionate Dr. John Carter, it’s worth pointing out that The Pitt is not a spin-off or continuation of E.R., and instead focuses on its own self-contained story.
