Because you loved them. You’d stop and take pictures of how beautiful they were, you’d watch them closely as if you were one with them, as if you understood what they go through, as if you knew where they go and they always put a huge smile on your face because you were always trying to chase the perfect sunset.
Sunsets still remind me of you.
Because they brought out another side of you. They made you honest, they made you vulnerable, they made you real. It’s like they took that mask off your face and allowed you to be yourself. They made you get in touch with your deepest feelings and they made you love me.
Sunsets still remind me of you.
Because they soothed your soul. You’d look at them and breathe, you’d look at them and forget about all the things you normally worry about, you’d forget about your responsibilities, your duties, your bills and you’d forget about your pain. They healed you in a way I never could. They healed the scars that you didn’t want to show anyone — not even me.
Sunsets still remind me of you.
Because I haven’t been able to enjoy them without you. I can’t get lost in their beauty without remembering the pain. Because I realized they were only beautiful because you were by my side, now they just serve as a reminder that the day is over and they serve as a reminder that you’re no longer here with me.
Sunsets still remind me of you.
Because I still hope that one day we’ll watch them together again. That they will take us back to a time when we knew how to love each other, that they would be the reason why we couldn’t really make it work with anyone else. Because I hope that they remind you of me too and they’d be the reason why you’ll come find me again because you’ve missed the light and because you’re still trying to chase the perfect sunset.
