Wes Anderson’s New Film Releases At The End Of May, And It’s Got An All-Star Cast
Wes Anderson has made a cult following for himself thanks to his endlessly creative universes full of color, creative photography, and charmingly quirky style.
Whether it’s children’s movie cult classics like Fantastic Mr. Fox or ensemble comedies like The Grand Budapest Hotel, each of Wes Anderson’s storybook-style films are bound to captivate audiences with endless whimsy.
On May 30th, 2025, the latest Wes Anderson film will hit theaters worldwide. The Phoenician Scheme promises a thrilling take on classic Wes Anderson style; it’s a combination of an espionage film and a black comedy.

The film follows character Zsa-zsa Korda (played by Benicio del Toro), one of the richest men in all of Europe. His daughter (played by Mia Threapleton) is the sole heir of his grand estate. Korda is involved in a range of assassination attempts and wrenches thrown into his latest business enterprise. The tagline for the film is simply, “The story of a family and a family business.” Apt and succinct.
Willem Dafoe, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Cera, and Benedict Cumberbatch are just a few of the familiar celebrity faces you’ll see in the cast of The Phoenician Scheme. The vibrant characters and wide ensemble promise a Wes Anderson classic with an espionage twist; and given the care that Anderson takes when developing the universes behind his movies, The Phoenician Scheme will undoubtedly be full of delightful twists and turns.
The budget for the film was estimated to be around $30 million. The movie finished filming in the summer of 2024, and will first premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before being officially released to the public at the end of May. Focus Features and Universal Pictures are behind the distribution of the film.
