Anthony Bourdain’s Newest Biopic Just Found Its Titular Actor
Anthony Bourdain has been subject of many a documentary before — but there’s a brand new one in the works that follows Bourdain’s work in 1976.
Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain was the most recent sensation to follow the life of the star chef, but it tends to take a much broader perspective on Bourdain’s life.

Now, a new biopic is in the works that will take a closer look at Bourdain’s life before he began his career as a chef. The film has been the subject of many rumors since its conception, but there wasn’t much to go off of in terms of casting; until now, that is. The Holdovers star Dominic Sessa has officially announced that he has joined the biopic to play a young Anthony Bourdain.

A24 has also joined the film as a backer, and Antonio Banderas has been confirmed to have joined the cast as well, though his role has not yet been released to the public.
The film will be officially titled Tony, and is still in development; filming is scheduled to begin this spring. The film takes place a few years before Bourdain enrolled in culinary school, and is set to follow his time living in Provincetown.
Chris Stinson, Amy Greene, Kimberly Witherspoon, Lou Howe, Todd Bartels, and Emily Rose are all confirmed to be involved in the film as executive producers. Matt Johnson will direct.
There’s no confirmation on when Tony will be officially released to the public, but given the fact that filming is set to begin within the next month or so, we can hopefully look to a release date within the next couple of years; possibly as soon as 2026 or more towards 2028.
