2 Disney Princesses We Hope Will Never Get A Sequel

Do Disney classics like 'Tangled' and 'Beauty and the Beast' genuinely benefit from sequels, or should their stories remain untouched?

Disney sequels are a tough topic. Some people love them, some people hate them. Sometimes, they end up seriously taking away from the magic and wonder of the original film — other times, they genuinely add to the original story.

Tangled

Who hasn’t fallen in love with Disney’s nostalgic 2012 Rapunzel adaptation, Tangled? It became a classic for so many reasons — from being one of the last traditional Disney fairytale love stories to the charming way it captured audiences’ hearts. However, adding a sequel could complicate the charm it originally brought.

Interestingly, Tangled already received a sequel—not in movie format but through Disney’s animated children’s series, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, which follows Rapunzel’s new adventures in the kingdom of Corona.

Creating a direct movie sequel to Tangled would either involve rewriting significant plot points from the series or picking up where the series ended, potentially isolating fans who haven’t seen the show.

Beauty and the Beast

A few Disney classics from the era of traditional 2D animation have received overlooked follow-ups, but Beauty and the Beast remains largely untouched. Unlike films such as Mulan or The Little Mermaid, Disney has largely left Beauty and the Beast alone after its original release.

A sequel for Beauty and the Beast might feel unnecessary, as Belle and the prince’s story was fully resolved. Additionally, Disney already provided more context through Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. Although canonical, this film doesn’t expand on Belle’s life after the original but serves as a short Christmas-themed story set during her initial time at the Beast’s castle.

Ultimately, Beauty and the Beast stands strongly on its own, and a sequel might struggle to recapture its initial charm and storytelling magic.
