The Reason Why ‘Mickey 17’ Was Delayed

By

Highly anticipated sci-fi adaptation Mickey 17 (starring Robert Pattinson) follows a futuristic “disposable” worker, who regenerates into a new body whenever he dies. Sent off to explore a barren ice planet, the character soon discovers that his many regenerations aren’t exactly what they seem.

Sound like an instant hit? Pretty much every cinephile can agree with you. But with an initial release scheduled all the way back in March of 2024, the movie is arriving to theaters a full year late.

Initially, the production team suffered delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in the summer of 2023. This pushed the movie’s initial release date back to January of 2025. However, the production team soon pushed for another delay, scheduling its new launch in February, and then another delay yet again, making the movie’s official release date a full year after its initial one.

However, most viewers can agree that this was actually a good move by the production company. January is often known to be a bad time for movies. With the holiday season over and most people more focused on their work and personal life with virtually no time to head to the cinema, the action truly starts picking up in the springtime of each year.

This is why you’ll often see blockbusters slated for the summer or fall seasons, when casual moviegoers are more likely to be paying attention to all the scheduled releases. Mickey 17 likely decided upon a new release date for this exact reason; the initial date pushback was a requirement because of the strikes, but it needed two more small adjustments to ensure a welcoming box office when it finally releases.

Its highly-anticipated March 7th release date has been finalized this 2025. There’s no one who’s been following its journey since last year who isn’t excited to finally be able to see it in person for the first time.
