7. Broadchurch

Broadchurch technically debuted back in March on BBC America, yet another feather in the channel’s cap after The Hour, Friday Night Dinner and The Office. The British import will never gain the Super Bowl-size fanbase of the wildly popular melodrama Downton Abbey, but it deserves to find a cult all its own. Featuring the reliably fantastic David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur), Broadchurch is about the search for the killer of a young boy, a somewhat similar premise to The Killing. But unlike The Killing, Broadchurch is actually good, nabbing BBC some of the best reviews its ever gotten. Aside from Breaking Bad and the now-cancelled Enlightened, Broadchurch is currently Metacritic’s highest-rated show of the year.

If you don’t check it out on BBC, you can check out Broadchurch when Fox adapts its own version, set to debut in the U.S. in 2014 — sure to be a big hit. However, if you want to say you got there first, get up on it now.

Honorable Mentions: The Blacklist, Hostages and Almost Human (set to debut Nov. 4) Thought Catalog Logo Mark
