Her is a debut of sorts for Spike Jonze. This will be the first time he’s directed a movie from his own screenplay, although Her harkens back to his early work with Charlie Kaufman, who he hasn’t made a movie with in over a decade. (Yes, Adaptation came out 11 years ago. I know, you’re old.) Like Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine — also a Kaufman film — Her explores our changing relationships with technology in a modern age defined by social media. It also looks heartbreaking.
