The crows in Dumbo already raise eyebrows by performing a stereotyped minstrel version of blackness that we see in many Disney films or Hollywood products of the time. (See: Al Jolson’s entire career.) But what’s really alarming isn’t just that they jive-talk like Transformers robots but that one of the characters is actually named Jim Crow. Leave it to Disney to leave nothing to the imagination about their race politics.
Takeaway: Please, never name your character “Jim Crow,” ever.
