The Top 5 Nick And Jess ‘New Girl’ Moments, Ranked
Ross and Rachel, who? Exactly. Nick Miller (Jake Johnson) and Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) from New Girl are one of the most iconic TV couples ever.
Need further proof? Here are their top five moments, ranked.
5. The whole haunted house debacle
While this particular moment isn’t when Jess and Nick are together, it does show how much Nick truly cares about Jess.
After Jess “goes off the grid” when she gets laid off from her teaching job, she begins a casual fling with Dr. Sam. Of course, Jess is not exactly skilled in the Keeping Things Light Department, so she eventually develops feelings for Dr. Sam and decides she’s going to tell him that she wants something more serious after her shift at a haunted house she’s working at for extra cash.
Jess tells Nick her plan before she heads into the haunted house for work. When Dr. Sam shows up, he and Nick are talking and Dr. Sam reveals that he’s texting other women. Nick then takes it upon himself to try to save Jess from rejection by going into the haunted house to let her know what he found out about Dr. Sam. Mind you, this is a huge deal for Nick given his complete phobia of haunted houses.
While Nick is unsuccessful in his endeavor, so unsuccessful that he ends up accidentally punching Jess in the face out of fear, it really shows that he cares deeply about his roommate, even just as a friend. As he tells Jess later when she’s sad about Dr. Sam:
“You deserve someone who’s crazy about you.”
4. Prince’s Party
Cece scores an invite to a party at the legendary singer Prince’s mansion. Before Jess leaves for the party, Nick accidentally blurts out that he loves her, to which Jess panics. However, later on, Prince helps Jess discover her voice and finally says “I love you” to Nick.
3. Cricket
While “off the grid,” Jess gets herself into trouble while day drinking. When Dr. Sam approaches her at the bar and thinks she’s Katie, a woman he matched with on a dating app, Jess doesn’t correct him, and thus the fling starts.
Katie, as it turns out, is a professional dancer. When Dr. Sam is getting ready to leave the next morning, “Katie” needs to explain why she’s living with the guys. She quickly lies and says they’re also dancers, saying that Nick, or “Cricket,” is the “best leaper” and asks him to show Dr. Sam what a good job he does leaping. Nick hilariously obliges.
2. Jess Dressing Up As Elvis At Walt’s Funeral
When Nick’s dad Walt unexpectedly passes away, the crew heads to Nick’s hometown of Chicago to support the Millers and pay their respects. When the Elvis impersonator is too drunk to perform at Walt’s funeral, Jess takes it upon herself to save the show by dressing up as Elvis instead. It’s an act of love for Nick during one of the hardest days of his life.
1. The First Kiss
Was it great that Jess was still in a relationship with Dr. Sam when she and Nick finally kissed? Obviously, it’s not ideal. HOWEVER, the kiss was hot, so. It’s fine!
