From totally original scores to a perfectly curated set of songs, these eight movies have some of the greatest soundtracks of all time.

1. Almost Famous (2000)

Almost Famous

You can’t talk about an amazing film soundtrack without mentioning Cameron Crowe’s coming-of-age film Almost Famous. Set in the 1970s, 15-year-old William Miller (Patrick Fugit) gets the opportunity to go on tour as a journalist for Rolling Stone covering the up-and-coming rock band Stillwater.

Almost Famous‘ soundtrack was so damn good, it even won a 2001 Grammy Award for Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

2. Pulp Fiction (1994)

Miramax Films

Next up for the greatest soundtracks of all time is Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction.

Featuring the likes of Dusty Springfield, Al Green, Kool & The Gang, and more. That said, the most iconic song in the movie had to be Dick Dale’s “Misirlou,” which matched the mood of the bold movie perfectly.

3. Garden State (2004)

Garden State

While Garden State‘s music won’t change your life (iykyk), it is an amazing soundtrack featuring the likes of The Shins, Coldplay, Nick Drake, Remy Zero, Simon & Garfunkel, and more.

4. Forrest Gump (1994)

Forrest Gump (1994) | IMDb

Forrest Gump‘s soundtrack is so perfect because they align each portion of the movie with the music of the era that particular part of the movie is depicting. For example, when Forrest first gets to Vietnam, Creednace Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” is blaring. (In case you didn’t know, “Fortunate Son” was a protest song about the war.)

5. Star Wars

Star Wars

“Do DOOOO do do do DOOOO do.” You know what I’m singing. Star Wars is known for its original score composed by John Williams. Its iconic music features songs like “The Imperial March,” “Luke’s Theme,” and the “Main Title.”

6. The Bodyguard (1992)

The Bodyguard (1992) | IMDb

The Bodyguard stars the late Whitney Houston as Rachel Marron, an R&B singer with a stalker situation that is turning serious. At the recommendation of her manager (Gary Kempt), Rachel hires former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) as her bodyguard.

The Bodyguard is the film that brought us the hauntingly stunning “I Will Always Love You” among other beautiful songs sung by Houston.

7. Lord Of The Rings

Lord of the Rings

The soundtrack for the movie series based on the classic books by J.R.R. Tolkien is another film with a fantastic original score. The music basically transports you right to Middle Earth whenever you hear it.

8. High Fidelity (2000)

High Fidelity

Obviously, a movie about moving on from a breakup using the healing power music would have a good soundtrack. Well, at least hopefully. Luckiliy, High Fidelity delivers on that assumption.

High Fidelity‘s soundtrack features Aretha Franklin, Elvis Costello, The Beta Band, The Velvet Underground, Stevie Wonder, The Kinks, and more.
