How Andrew Garfield’s ‘Chicken Shop Date’ Made The Internet Believe In Love Again

Today was the day for Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield’s highly-anticipated appearance on Chicken Shop Date.

Hosted by the beautiful and hilarious Amelia Dimoldenberg, Chicken Shop Date began as a YouTube series when Dimoldenberg was in college.

The premise was simple: Dimoldenberg would interview up-and-coming musicians at local London chicken shops under the bit that the interview was a “date,” and that this date would comprise of Dimoldenberg being aloof, thirsty, and disinterested all at once.

As it turns out, the combination worked.

Since the series’ inception, Chicken Shop Date has exploded in popularity, featuring the likes of guests such as SZA, YungBlud, and Ed Sheeran. Dimoldenberg even had a (sorta) double date with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Each episode of Chicken Shop Date is totally hilarious in its own right, mostly thanks to Dimoldenberg’s dry humor and pitch-perfect delivery of flirtatious disinterest.

That said, sometimes, chemistry still manages to find its way into the chicken shop, just as was seen during Dimoldenberg’s “date” with Paul Mescal. However, Mescal and Dimoldenberg’s date seems to be ancient history after Garfield’s most-recent appearance on Chicken Shop Date.

Dimoldenberg and Garfield’s date has been highly anticipated thanks to their initial meet-cute on the red carpet, when Dimoldenberg was interviewing attendees for GQ:

After their first meeting, Dimoldenberg and Garfield had another red carpet moment together at the 2023 Golden Globes with giggling and flirting present once more. This only made the Internet even hungrier for more interactions between the two. Eventually, Garfield joked he couldn’t ever show up on Dimoldenberg’s show because he was “scared of what it could turn into.”

As it turns out, Garfield’s fear has been pushed aside because, two years since their first encounter, the pair met up again.

And, yes, the entire Chicken Shop Episode was as flirty as you’d expect (actually, maybe even more so).

But what made this Chicken Shop Date so utterly delightful was that Garfield and Dimoldenberg leaned into the absurdity of the show’s intention, but it seemed as though genuine interest couldn’t be hidden between the two, so much so that at one point, Dimoldenberg even said that there was something “going on” between them.

Later, Garfield posited that a real date would have been successful between them, so long as there weren’t the cameras necessary for the Chicken Shop recording.

Moreover, it seemed that Dimoldenberg couldn’t even manage to keep up with her persona. She was clearly enjoying her time with Garfield (and the feeling was also very much mutual).

But, in any event, whether the date was the result of acting (haha, no) or just for fun (also, haha, no), this Chicken Shop Date episode did help people remember what it was like to have a crush or be actually excited about a first date.
