Here are 10 movies that will really make you think, according to Reddit.

1. Children of Men

Children of Men. It’s not just a post-apocalyptic story, it touches on a lot of truly human conundrums.–Up2Eleven

2. Marriage Story

Every time this question pops up in this sub, the top responses lean towards the supernatural or science fiction themes.

I would argue that, in reality, ‘Inception’ truly spoonfeeds the audience in order to bring them along on the journey and effectively tell the story, and that personally, I’d say ‘Magnolia’, or ‘Marriage Story’ have left me thinking about the actions the characters took for much longer after the film ended.

Might just be a personal opinion, but my mind is always more active when characters face difficult decisions which I might face in my life at some point.

3. Spielburg’s AI

Spielberg’s AI was the most thought provoking and emotionally devastating film I have ever seen. After watching I found myself inconsolably crying- a woman across the hall was in the very same place. I often think a part of the movie was a metaphor for how many of us talk about and treat undocumenteds.–

4. Into The Wild

Into the wild made me feel things. Sad feelings, thinking about life just stayed in my mind for days. Not physiological no nothing. But still good. Maybe you can try.–Significant-Owl2299

5. The Game

The Game.

Don’t read anything about it. Don’t look into it. Just watch it. Michael Douglas. Sean Penn. It’s exactly what you’re looking for.–

6. Her

‘Her’ with Joaquin Phoenix really got to me.–

7. Donnie Darko

I’d say give Donnie Darko a try.–

8. Gattaca

It’s a sci fi/thriller movie about genetic determinism. Really makes you think about where our world may be headed and the consequences of ‘perfection.’–

9. Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake.

Just watched it the other day & been thinking about it ever since.–First_Knee

10. Afraid

It’s not really a “great” movie, but Afraid (2024) made me really think about how AI could one day start to hold people hostage to the point where they will have no choice but to obey what it wants. Pretty scary stuff.
