15 Little Prayers For The Moments You Want To Talk To God, But Aren’t Sure What To Say

Dear God, I’m not sure what to say. But I know I want to talk to you.

For when your heart hurts.

Dear God, my heart is breaking. Everything aches. Everything I thought would work didn’t. Everything I loved let me down. The person I gave my whole soul to has walked away. And I don’t have the strength to stand anymore. I feel like giving up.

Please help me to find strength in you. Please take this pain and show me how to let it go. Help me to forgive, to begin again, to trust that this brokenness is a part of your plan. God, help me to see new beginnings. Help me to heal. Help me to start over, because I know you have better plans for me. This is so hard, but I’m trusting in you. Save me from this feeling. Amen.

For when you are simply thankful.

God, thank you. I know those words are never going to be enough, but thank you. Thank you for all the ways you have blessed me, for all wonderful people you’ve put in my life, for all the things you have given me, to strengthen me and bring light.

I know life won’t always feel this wonderful, but thank you for right now. And please help me to lean on you in the good and bad. Help me to know in all things, and on all days, you are my God. Amen.

For when you feel sick with guilt.

Dear Lord, I come to you in all my brokenness. I come to you in my sin and shame. I come to you with my head down and my heart heavy. I know I’ve done wrong. I feel awful and it’s hard to even stand before you right now. I know you want the best for me; I know you want me to live in your ways, but it’s so hard sometimes.

I need your help.

Please lift these burdens from my shoulders. Please take my shame and release it. Please forgive my sin and help me to see new light, feel new beginnings in your grace. Please help me to start over, and guide my path. I don’t deserve your love, but you give it to me anyways. Thank you. Thank you for giving your Son to die for me. Thank you for hope. Amen.

For when you’ve decided to believe and give your life to Him.

Father, I believe you gave your Son to die for my sins and the sins of this world. I believe that your Son, Jesus, came to earth, was born of a virgin, was crucified, died on a cross, and rose again. I believe that His purpose was to save us and prepare a place in Heaven for us when we die.

I believe.

And I want to walk in your light all of my days. Amen.

For when you’re wild with anger.

God, take this anger, take this frustration, take these angry words on my tongue and rid my body of them. Help me to calm down. Help me to breathe. Help me to take all this emotion I’m feeling and release it in a healthy way. I am so angry right now. I want to scream and punch and kick and let the world know how I’m feeling. But you already know what I’m feeling. You see the anger on my heart and what you want for me is to let it go, let go of that darkness.

Please help me to do that. Please replace this anger with kindness, this blackness with light. Please help me to calm and talk and act in a way that honors you. Amen.

For the first prayer you ever share with God.

Dear God, I’m not sure what to say. This is the first time I’ve done this, and to be honest, I feel like I’m a strange person talking to nothing. But I want to talk to you, so here it goes—Thank you for the ways you’ve blessed me, thank you for the lessons you’ve taught me and the way you’ve shaped my life. Please help me to grow stronger in faith, to lean on you, to trust you, and to let you guide me.

I’m not the most faithful person, but I want to be. I need your help, and I’m asking that you’ll be a presence in my life. Please help me to lean on you instead of my own strength. Please help me trust you instead of the things of this world. Help me to build a relationship with you. Help my faith to grow. Please let us become closer, and strengthen my faith in your word. Amen.

For the happiest moments of your life.

Lord, wow. Just wow. I am in awe of your grace and mercy. I am humbled by all the good you have given to me, even when I don’t deserve it. Thank you. Thank you for everything. And please remind me of all this good when life falls short of my expectations. I know that you are a giving God, but I know that your purpose is not to answer all my prayers or grant all my wishes. Help me to remember this on days I feel empty. When I feel as if I don’t have enough, remind me of all that I do have. Amen.

For when you feel unsure about your faith.

Father, I want to trust you, but if I’m being honest, right now I’m not sure. I’m skeptical. I’m doubtful. I’ve been filled with so many lies and truths and I’m confused. I’m just plain confused.

Please remind me of your strength and mercy. Please point me to other believers, to the scriptures, to places where I can go to be reminded of who you are. Please show me a sign or path to follow. I want to be encouraged; I want to know you, again. Amen.

For when grief has overcome your heart.

God, I am at a loss for words. I don’t understand why you have done this. Why you have taken away a person I loved, why you have given a diagnosis that is life-changing, why it feels like you have abandoned me in my moment of greatest need.

I feel broken, and I need you. I need you now more than ever.

Please hold my heart in your hands. Please don’t allow my pain to push you away. Please take care of me, love me, save me from the emptiness in my chest. I need your grace, strength, and healing. I need to know you’re still here, and always will be. Amen.

For when you’re clueless and confused.

Dear God, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m at a crossroads, facing a tough decision, and I’m clueless. I need your guidance right now. Please point me in the right direction. Please set my heart on your plans and guide me to the path that will bring you honor. Help me to know what you want for me. And stay by my side as I decide, and every step of the way as I continue forward. Amen.

For when you feel lonely.

God, I know you have a plan. And I know that plan is bigger and better than anything I could plan for myself. But right now I just feel alone. I want someone to come into my life and love me fully. I want that fairytale, that ‘happily ever after,’ that beautiful type of love I see all around me. I want to be loved, God.

Help me to trust in your timing. Help me to stop questioning your decisions and instead find peace in the fact that you don’t leave your children. Help me to know that real love, true love, pure love is the love you show me. And help me to know you’ll never stop loving me. Amen.

For the moments you wonder why.

Lord, I don’t understand your plan or your purpose. I don’t get why you’ve brought this turmoil into my life or what lesson you want me to learn. I want to trust you, but I’m angry. I’m unsure. I’m feeling anything but understanding right now.

Please heal my heart. Please help me to see your purpose. Help me to know, in time, the reason why, even if it seems so very unclear right now. I’m trusting in you. Amen.

For when you think He’s not listening.

God, it doesn’t feel like you’re listening. I feel like I’ve been talking to an empty sky, or just to myself. I want to know you’re up there. I want to know that my words aren’t just evaporating into the air. I want to know I’m not alone, because honestly, I feel alone right now.

God, show me that you’re here. Help me to trust that you are listening, and find comfort in the words of other believers, in the Bible, in strengthening my faith. I know you are a merciful God. Please remind me of this, and remind me that you’ll never leave me when I feel myself doubt. Amen.

For when you’re scared.

Father, I don’t know what to do. I am terrified of moving forward; I am scared of what could happen when I walk out the door. Whether a person, a situation, or just a shake to my core, I need you to stand by me and strengthen me. I need you to build my heart back to its powerful state. I need you to work in me and through me to show me that I can overcome this fear. Please be with me; I need you. Amen.

For when you want to build your relationship with Him.

Dear Lord, I love you. I love all that you have done for me. I love all the ways you have made me, me. I love how you have enriched my life with people, situations, lessons, and care. Help me to walk in your ways all the days of my life. Help me to turn to you in my sin, and let my mistakes be forgiven in your name. Help me to be an encouragement to others, and a beacon of hope for those who are hurting. Use me for your purpose, and continually strengthen my faith in your name.

I love you, Lord. Amen. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
