You could ask every single person in the world to define love, and each of them would give you a different answer. Trust me, I’ve done it on a small scale. And each of them explained it in their own strange and beautiful way. Weird, huh?
It’s crazy to me that we all crave this one thing—but it’s one thing we can’t concretely define.
For me, the best way to describe love is that it’s inherent. You love your family, you love the people you’re surrounded by, and you love those you form relationships with.
You don’t have to try to love someone.
And when you fall in love with them, you just know.
But I also believe that on some levels, love is a choice.
That you choose your person, you choose your relationship day after day after day no matter what obstacles are thrown in your path.
So…in the end, there’s no hard and fast answer.
But for some reason, humans take this concept of ‘love’ and complicate it. We can hardly define it, yet we give it rules. We say that there’s a certain age when we can have it, that there’s a specific way we should act when we find it, or even that it’s supposed to be between people of a certain age, or sex, or belief system.
We create rules for how people should fall in love, what love should look like, how two people should feel.
But I say f*ck that.
Life’s too short to go around looking for a perfect girl, to try to be careful with how you love or who you love, or to think that the woman you’re meant to be with is someone who does everything patiently and perfectly and in a straight line.
If you’re looking for real love, you have to date the girl who says ‘screw it.’
The girl who isn’t afraid to fall fast, and fall hard. Who isn’t afraid to stand in opposition to what the world thinks, to challenge what people say, or how love should look.
The girl who isn’t afraid to love you with everything she has, even if the world calls her foolish.
Life is too short for noncommittal love, for half-love, for timid love.
Real love is supposed to be about letting go, jumping in, looking fear in the face and saying who cares?
So if you want a love that’s powerful, a love that’s deep, a love that means something then you have to fall for the girl who doesn’t worry about being ‘by the book.’
Date the girl that laughs too loud and kisses too deeply.
The girl that isn’t afraid to fall, and fall fast into you. The girl that jumps in with two feet, never hesitating, never stopping, never pausing to rethink.
Date the girl that breaks all the rules, and breaks them for you.
