I Hope This Next Year You Put Yourself First

I hope you understand that what brought you down this past year will eventually fade.

You will feel found again.

You will find your place.

You will find your inner peace.

I know that sometimes throughout the past year you have felt as if you were lost and that you wouldn’t be able to survive through it.

Yet here you are, with the resilience that you always knew you had in you and with such confidence that you know you can survive so much more you ever thought you were capable of.

I know that sometimes you are feeling as if the city is caving in on you. That the bright lights and the fast pace of the world seems like it is just too much to handle.

You will get through this.

You will find your place in this city and within yourself.

You will learn that what brought you to the city will lead you to new places and new experiences that you would never have even dreamed of.

I want you to know that you won’t always feel as lost as you do right now.

You won’t always feel as if your body holds the weight of the world in your chest.

You will feel calm again, you will feel content again.

I want you to know that you have people that love you. I want you to know that the people who had made you feel so lost and lonely; you will move on from them and find people who appreciate you and accept you.

You will meet new people who you will never know how you lived without them before you felt the loneliness that you couldn’t quite understand before.

I want you to understand that how you felt within the past year will change.

You’re life is meant to be ever changing.

You are supposed to feel different from how you felt a year ago or even a month ago or even a week ago.

I want you to understand that what once broke you; will eventually be the turning point to your life starting over. That sometimes you need to hit rock bottom in order to realize what you want in life.

You need to start from the bottom in order to understand who you are at the core of yourself; to truly understand what makes you happy, to truly understand what makes your soul sing. I want you to never stop reaching for what makes your soul sing.

I want you to know that you should never give up.

You should never give in to the feelings of loneliness and despair. I want you to know that there are people out there who will stand by your side and fight with you.

Please know that you need to let them in.

The only way to relieve yourself from the loneliness and overwhelming anxiety is to let people in; just let someone in.

I want you to know that it is okay to let people in. I want you to understand that sometimes you don’t need to be guarded, you don’t need to be a rock, you can ask for help and will feel better when you do.

I want you to know that you need to be vulnerable in order to let yourself heal after this year. Thought Catalog Logo Mark

Let yourself feel and grieve and mourn the life that led you to the next year you have ahead but understand that a year from now, you will be in such a better place. You will feel better than you did a year ago and you will understand why you can’t give up.

I want you to know that you have to be relentless in this life and put yourself first.

This next year, please remember to put yourself first.

Please remember to let others in and allow them to see you vulnerable. No one ever healed by hiding their feelings. No one ever grew as a person from being guarded.

This next year, please remember that you will get through anything that life throws at you because you are resilient, you are magnificent and you will get through anything.
