Let Him Go

A Note For When You Feel Unlovable

“What if I am unlovable?” they ask me. “I try so hard, and it never works. I am always left. The ones I want never want me back.”

My heart cleaves in two. This person is spectacular, and yet here they are, questioning their worth.

“Listen to me,” I say. “Loving the wrong people doesn’t mean that you are wrong. Loving people who won’t commit doesn’t mean that you are not worth committing to. But you cannot give up. There are over 7 billion people in this world. You must try and try and try again. Even when you don’t want to. Even when you feel like there’s no point.

Look at how many people settle. They settle because they don’t want to be alone. They settle because it is safe. They settle because they think they won’t have another chance.

You are not meant to settle. You are one of the special ones. Over 7 billion people, and only one of you. You are rare. You are a wild, beautiful thing. And just because it is taking longer for you, doesn’t mean you won’t find it.

Over 7 billion people. There is someone who looks at you and thinks you are like art. They think they have never seen someone as magnificent as you. They think everything you touch turns to gold. They think your heart is a place they’d feel safe to call home. They know how special you are. And when they enter your life, they will do whatever they can in their power to make sure you know this.

There has never before been, and there never will be, another you. You are one of the special ones.

Don’t you ever give up. Don’t you ever settle. Don’t you ever forget that you are rare.” Thought Catalog Logo Mark
