Remember sleep? That was a good thing you used to do. Teachers once encouraged you to do it at school, right in the middle of the day! It was great. But now people are all, “Rah, rah! Stop sleeping! You sleep too much!” and it’s like, a total bummer. I miss sleep. It’s such a good thing to do for your body and brain. And we just suck down coffee and give it the cold shoulder. Why? Are we monsters?!

Here are some reasons sleep is the best:

1. Dreams!

Dreams are crazy! Remember that one you had where all your hair fell out and then your third grade teacher made you eat a swimming pool of ice cream? Or the one where a dinosaur wearing a monocle called you “pretty?” Or where you were Tom Hanks in “Apollo 13” but you were made entirely of strawberry jam? Yeah. That shit won’t happen to you in real life, son.

2. Pillows

Pillows are soft and they make your neck feel good. They are like beautiful hugs for your head. I have many pillows on my bed because I like to pretend I am royalty as I fall asleep. You can get super soft ones and just encase your body in them. You can also use them to build a fort, but unless you’re sleeping in that fort, that’s not relevant to this article.

3. Rest

You work hard. You play hard. You deserve to rest. Your poor eyeballs are looking at stuff all day, doesn’t it feel nice to just close them? Your body is mostly in an upright position too and that causes strain on the muscles. Just let ’em sink into the mattress.

4. Stress Reducer

Sometimes when I feel very stressed out, I just fall asleep. (I actually just learned this is a medical condition because of someone on Twitter! Fun fact!) This is because the body is reacting to being too overwhelmed and it responds by putting you to sleep. Sleep can help reduce stress so you should listen to your body!

5. Health reasons

Sleep is good for your heart, blood pressure, cholesterol and prevents heart disease. Sleep may even help prevent cancer, because melatonin reduces risk of tumors. It’s when you grow and it generally replenishes your body. It’s good for your skin and it reduces inflammation. Wanna be healthier? Get some more sleep.

6. Pajamas

Pajamas are the best! They are soft and warm, or silky and sexy. You can get all different nerdy kinds because who cares, right? No one’s gonna see you when you’re sleeping. Get kid’s PJs with Spiderman on them and wear them without shame! I do!

7. Stronger Memory

Sleep is really good for your memory too. It helps you be more alert, energetic and observant. While you sleep your brain makes connections of things that happened throughout the day and stores memories, events, feelings and sense. If you suck at remembering things, perhaps you need to be getting a better night’s sleep.

8. Basically Therapy

Sleep is basically “overnight therapy” in the sense that since it’s doing all this to your brain, it’s helping sort out any problems you may have. You know how people are like, “It came to me in a dream?” That’s because the brain is doing the busy work for you while you sleep. If you have a problem, you should sleep on it because the next morning it will all seem clearer: thanks to sleep!

9. Snuggling

If you have a SO, this is the best. Sleep is when you get to snuggle and cuddle and drool and cling to and generally use another person’s body like a jungle gym for your own comfort. And it’s totally sanctioned by love and stuff. They have to let you even if you are sweaty or heavy. It’s the rules of romance. Get ta spoonin’, boo. I don’t have all night. (Jk, I do!)
