The Most Toxic Characters Of ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3

At least toxic characters are entertaining as hell.

By

If you were to vacation in Thailand and met someone from The White Lotus Season 3, you would probably become vacation friends.

You would chat about the delightful performances, the beautiful coastline, perhaps even the intricacies of Thai culture. You would share some laughs, perhaps go halfsies on appetizers; you would promise to stay in touch; and you would never see each other again. The beauty of The White Lotus, though, is that it peels back its characters, petal by petal, until their fragrant, decaying centers are gloriously exposed. You see the real people that, without Mike White’s incisive eye and ear, you would never have met otherwise, even over appetizers. In this way, even the most banal, inoffensive character – Piper, in this season – begins to show signs of rot. That said, there are some characters in The White Lotus Season 3 who were toxic from the very start. Warning: Spoilers ahead if you’re not caught up with the show.

Timothy Ratliff

Fabio Lovino / HBO

Played by: Jason Isaacs

Toxic behavior: Judging by his angry phone call in which he threatens to kill his acquaintance and urges them towards suicide, he has at least one transactional friendship. However, he also refuses to disconnect and relax, which is just making his anger issues worse!

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: He would ask to use your hotspot since he needs Wifi and everyone in his family is doing the phone cleanse.

Victoria Ratliff

Fabio Lovino / HBO

Played by: Parker Posey

Toxic behavior: Her wealth seems to have magnified her anxiety and paranoia, preventing her from opening up to experiences outside of her immediate circle. This appears to be why she enables her son’s crass, sexist behavior: She’s emotionally dependent on him and doesn’t want to push him away. However, she also has some internalized misogyny to deal with, based on her comment that all actresses are prostitutes!

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: You would never meet. She would spend her entire vacation glaring at you from across the restaurant.

Saxon Ratliff

Fabio Lovino / HBO

Played by: Patrick Schwarzenegger

Toxic behavior: Saxon’s name may just be a nod to his Anglo-Saxony vibes, because he is the embodiment of white male American privilege. He objectifies women to a fault and even sexualizes his sister; he’s also unabashedly materialistic and sees the world as a series of dollar signs, like Jack Donaghy in 30 Rock. Also, he’s possibly gaybaiting his bicurious brother for attention?

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: Depending on your gender presentation, he would either hit on you or steal your towel at the gym.

Jaclyn Lemon

Fabio Lovino / HBO

Played by: Michelle Monaghan

Toxic behavior: For starters, she’s competitive, condescending, and disingenuous with her friends. On top of that, she’s also boastful and judgmental in general. Honestly, Jaclyn and her friends need to hang out with some drag queens and learn how to insult each other to their faces. Talking behind each others’ backs, they avoid conflict, honesty, personal growth, and connection.

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: Let’s be real, you would be asking for her autograph.

Kate

Fabio Lovino / HBO

Played by: Leslie Bibb

Toxic behavior: She’s just as condescending, disingenuous, and judgmental as Jaclyn, but she’s also insecure and cruel to boot. This self-important bully is my least favorite of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Yoga Pants, and that’s saying a lot. Also, she doesn’t have a last name. Red flag!

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: She would lend you her yoga mat and then whisper to Jaclyn later that you have cankles.

Greg/Gary

HBO

Played by: Jon Gries

Toxic behavior: Hmm, this is a tough one. Let’s see, I guess he’s a little gruff and standoffish. Oh yeah, he also orchestrated the murder of his wife, Tanya, in Season 2! Yep, this is that Greg.

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: A “chance encounter” that will eventually lead to him draining your entire bank account.

Valentin

Fabio Lovino / HBO

Played by: Arnas Fedaravičius

Toxic behavior: He quite possibly helped orchestrate the robbery at the White Lotus by distracting Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong).

Likeliest situation in which you would meet at the White Lotus: Blocking him on Bumble.
