On ‘Las Culturistas,’ Jennifer Lawrence Breaks Down the Moment She Truly Believed She Was Going to Die – And Her Candid Story Has Everyone Talking

Actress Jennifer Lawrence recently shared the harrowing tale of thinking she was about to die on a plane in 2017 on the podcast Las Culturistas on Wednesday. The Die My Love actress was a guest on the podcast with hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang when she got into the most complete retelling yet of her famous 2017 double-engine-failure incident, and it was as chaotic as you would expect any J-Law story to be.

During the interview, Lawrence recounted a flight that she was on with a family friend, Robby, from Louisville. She “had it all under control” until they were at 31,000 feet and one of the engines shut down, which is when Lawrence says Robby stated matter-of-factly, “Everything’s okay because you can still hear the other engine… we’re fucked if you don’t hear anything.” It was at that point the plane went silent.

Lawrence was sitting with her dog, Pippi, on her lap during the ordeal, which she noted made her “feel bad for the dog who didn’t agree to this.” Lawrence also started leaving voice notes for her loved ones, which ranged from emotional to “psychotic,” telling them that she had lived a good life and reminding her family that she asked them not to make certain speeches at her funeral.

She even admitted that as they were getting closer to the airport in Buffalo, she saw the runway and fire trucks and began to think she and the passengers would be okay if the plane crashed. The landing “was bananas,” she recalled. It “landed hard. It was as if they landed on springs. And it shot back into the air, and they landed again and it was done. Once it stopped, they couldn’t open the door, so firefighters were breaking down the door.” At that point, everyone started to hug and cry as if “we had won something.”

The Federal Aviation Administration later confirmed the Boeing 767 diverted to Buffalo Niagara International Airport due to engine issues and landed safely there, but Lawrence’s story added more detail to what was reported in the media at the time.
